Melodifestivalen 2025: Deltävling Three (Västerås)

You just SPENT A PAGE making it obvious it wasn't a language barrier thing and that you meant what you said with your smart-arse response to a genuine question!

I can’t wait for Malou’s next ‘this is the real me’ persona
:disco:

I was trying to answer what I thought was dUb’s intended question about whether or not Meira has good chances of advancing from Finalkvalet, which she hasn’t.

It might have been worded clumsily, but you don’t know how much time I spend rereading and editing my posts in this forum so that my intention is not misinterpreted by UK natives. I do. Different manners of wording and phrasing sound and imply different things in different languages.

I've been trying to contribute knowledge to this forum. I’m not here to deceive anyone, and this environment is turning very toxic. Goodbye.

Malou was apparently very heartbroken on Saturday night :( However, she is in the middle of her law degree so I can foresee a magnificent Legally Blonde esque comeback where she ends up suing the competition and they ALL GO TO JAIL :disco:

Don’t leave sweetie - it’s all just gay drama. Or at least stay to see how many of these fickle girls drop Meira faster than a stone when Victoria Silvstedt leaks

Yes please stay @HalamaK

Sometimes I do fear that someday you’re going to kill me while I sleep and take over this forum, but I do enjoy your contributions.

So if you're Jimmy Joker and you've written your next absolute banger like When I'm Gone or 24K Gold, who do you turn to as a female lead with a good vocal and stage presence?

Malou and Maria have shown they don't quite have it; Klara and Margaret have the presence but can't quite nail the vocals. Hanna Ferm and Wiktoria didn't work out; Dotter and Mariette don't quite suit a banger.

Is it Jacqline? Kiana? Dinah Nah?! Where are the Charlottes, Carolas, and Lenas of this generation?

Kiana would have done a great job of 24K Gold. And presumably Jacqline will be back before long.

Definitely Kiana.

Shame Isa kind of lost interest, but she's still only 26, she could do brilliantly with the right song.

Imagine how exciting it would be if the entries in the second-chance round all competed in a night of head-to-head contests and the acts with the highest vote in each contest went through to the final.

Obviously this convoluted and complex algebra problem is much more exciting for the viewers though.

Following harsh media backlash, SVT revised the rules and updated their description of the Finalkvalet rules just this week.

Rule description from February 16:
I inledningen av Finalkvalet går bidraget som fick flest röster i sin deltävling till final. Därefter får publiken se en snabbrepris av de kvarvarande fyra bidragen och rösta. De uppspelade utsnitten ur bidragen kommer att vara längre än föregående säsong. I slutet av kvalet går det bidrag som har fått flest röster efter en sammanräkning av rösterna i deltävlingen och Finalkvalet till final.

I övrigt kvarstår tävlingsupplägget från föregående år.

English translation:
At the beginning of the Finalkval, the entry that received the most votes in its heat advances directly to the final. After that, the audience will see a quick recap of the remaining four entries and have the opportunity to vote. The excerpts played from the entries will be longer than in the previous season. At the end of the Finalkval, the entry with the most votes after a combined tally of votes from the heat and the Finalkval round will advance to the final.

Apart from this, the competition format remains the same as the previous year.

Updated rule description (as of yesterday):

English translation:
At the beginning of the Finalkval, the first finalist is announced based on the number of votes received in the heats. For fairness, this is adjusted in relation to the total number of voters in each respective heat. These votes are then converted into points, with 1,000 points distributed among the five entries.

After that, the audience will see a quick recap of the remaining four entries and have the opportunity to vote. The excerpts played from the entries will be longer than in the previous season. Votes cast during the Finalkval are also converted into points, with an additional 800 points distributed among the four entries.

At the end of the Finalkval, the entry with the highest total score, after combining the points from the heat and the Finalkval, advances to the final. In the event of a tie between two or more entries, the entry with the highest score from the first round, which is based on the votes from the heat, will qualify.

Apart from this, the competition format remains the same as the previous year.

I love that @Suomi has gone for maximum chaos by putting this in the Heat 3 thread for some reason.

Well, I guess maximum chaos would have been posting the rules in the What Have You Eaten Today thread or something but you know what I mean.

They also reduced the Finalkvalet points in the second round from 1,000 to 800 just yesterday, probably to make it seem less rigged. Previously, the Finalkval voting distributed 25% more points per act, as SVT had overlooked that one act had already advanced to the final when voting resumed.

Please tell me how the original wording could have been interpreted any differently. :shy:
I think I was always interpreting this way mainly because last time around, it was described in similarly simple wording around “votes from the heats” or similar, before further elaboration was given in the days leading up to the show.

I’m pretty sure this is a similar situation rather than an outright change of mind.

Mellopedia is a fantastic resource but it doesn’t preempt things before the detail is made public.

That’s not accurate. Last year, SVT initially used vague wording in press releases, but by late 2023, they had already clarified that points would be weighted based on the total number of voters in the heats.

Journalists have been discussing the implications of the new rules for months, so I’m not sure if they changed their mind mid-competition or just phrased it poorly at first. SVT was clearly panicking as they didn’t think the rules through very well in advance this year.

HaK is correct - nobody was sure of the actual rules until two days ago when it was formally presented

Another example is how they hastily reversed the scoring methodology for choosing the acts advancing from the heats.

Up until a few weeks before this year's contest, the first and third acts were set to advance based on age group scoring, while the second would advance based on raw votes.

I guess SVT’s late realization was that under those rules, Adam Woods, Miss Filth, Gunnila, and Scarlet would have all been eliminated in the heats, and Albin Tingwall would’ve received the last Finalen ticket.

Victoria's entry was clearly going to be Tess Merkel's next doomed effort if only her husband hadn't threatened to leave her and take the kids with him if she didn't stop blowing through their life savings. :disco:

HATE I'm Yours. Get the fuck out of my gay pop contest!

Arwin very good but a big ask for an untested performer to sell it.

Reckon Scarlet and Arvingarna will go direkt, as long as the Swedes don't do anything stupid RE that straight acoustic nonsense.
Wrong thread!
