The War in Ukraine

Interesting to see which small countries are on Russia's payroll. Who knew the Marshall Islands, Equatorial Guinea, and Burkina Faso had such an interest.

That's basically the line-up for WW3. Russia, China, USA and India is basically unbeatable.

Palau and the Marshall Islands are obligated to vote the same way as the USA in UN votes as part of their free (:eyes:) association agreement with them, IIRC

Donald Trump said Russian president Vladimir Putin would accept European peacekeepers in Ukraine as part of a potential deal to end the war.

Speaking to reporters in the Oval Office, French president Emmanuel Macron said Europe was prepared to provide security guarantees to Ukraine, including peacekeepers, in the event of a ceasefire.

I mean if you’re going to accept peacekeepers just stop invading Ukraine instead?

I don’t know where to put this but know you are all very informed on politics and current affairs. Is it likely that we are going to go in to a war again? I heard people talking at the weekend and it scared me a bit as Trump has taken Putins side over Zelenskys?
I’m not expert but it feels like the tone is changing towards resolution now. The war isnt going anywhere, Trump wants to appear the saviour, Europe wants to take a breather. The momentum has gone from the front line and turned into holding ground, it feels like the tables are turning toward negotiating and everyone coming out with something they can claim as a win.

We might end up sending peacekeeping troops but the chances of actual British armed forces involved in conflict is far away imo

I googled the cut-off age for conscription in World War II earlier, just in case, and was horrified to see it went up to 41 even back then.

I'm 37 and need a proper bed, NO WORLD WAR PLS

I am genuinely curious how conscription would even go in modern day Britain. Surely so many would refuse that it would be a pointless effort?
And imagine if some of us Moopy girls got drafted in the same regiment - I’m sure there’d be a lot of ‘accidental’ shots fired just because someone said in passing that they thought Body II Body was the best Samantha Mumba single or something

Crikey, I’m fit and healthy but my global conflict days are long gone.

I will take a nice safe job in the stores, where you can sell all the equipment to the enemy and make a bit of money out of the global war.

Who amongst us will be the first to give a handjob for a pair of nylons?

In his totally legit book "The Art of the Deal", Donald Trump 'wrote': "The worst thing you can possibly do in a deal is seem desperate to make it. That makes the other guy smell blood, and then you’re dead." And yet, he's frothing and simping for a deal with Putin.

I understand the criticism of European overdependence, but the policy he's adopting as his response is bizarre and cringey. He really thinks he's doing something.

I am torn between wanting to see Ukraine beat Russia in a bidding war, and wanting to see Trump BURN FOR ETERNITY for holding Ukraine's "right to defend itself" to ransom in such an evil way

It's wild to think there was a time when Medvedev was seen as a more modern, friendly, Western-oriented president. Big pop girls really do know how to reinvent.

This whole situation is really insane. But I can't help but think it's what Europe needs to make some big, bold moves forward. We've been trapped in stasis for decades. Suddenly, Britain is actively engaged again, and steps to unify defence are actively being discussed (an idea that was DOA for years).

He really needs to pick a side

If for no other reason his brain dead voters need to know who to cheer for. They don’t do nuance.

It's all part of pushing his preferred narrative that Ukraine is a defenceless supplicant that will cease to exist the moment the USA turns off the taps, isn't it?

It seems pretty obvious at this point that Russia wants to grab more land before it goes to the negotiating table (specifically, winning back Kursk and advancing in the Donbas region) and the USA are supporting them by cutting off Ukraine's intelligence. Absolutely reprehensible, war crime behaviour.
