Infamously pulled as the UK followup to Release Me after Radio 1 deemed it TOO EUROPEAN for their playlist.

Truly one of the lost smashes of the late 00s. May those executives never know peace.

Radio 1 will never not be ran by complete idiots. As if being ‘too European’ ever stopped a song breaking through in the UK - the home of the fun for Europe smash.

You're gonna FIND
This heart of MINE
is BEATING,
BEATING TILL IT'S BLEEDING :disco:

Is that timeline true? I thought the record company decided to go with the remixed I Need You Now for some inexplicable reason and then On and On after, rather than releasing it as they should, after Release Me.

It was then that Radio 1 abandoned her (and it) and the single was still released but missed the top 75.

Well exactly. If Radio 1 wouldn’t make a fun-for-Europe banger a hit, The Box certainly would.

They initially shopped On & On, but switched to I Need You Now after getting bad feedback from Radio One.

I have different memories, but ok. I feel like they said at the time they didn’t want to release two similarly themed songs in a row. Of course, that might have been to avoid the Radio 1 discussion publicly.

It followed the same tactic that Robyn did with ignoring the obvious follow up to With Every Heartbeat for Handle Me, a decision which probably cost Be Mine being a bigger hit too,

I have to say, I often think about Agnes and how frustrating her (non-Swedish) career has been handled. From this waste, however it happened, to the fact someone thought I Need You Now was a good idea for a follow up anyway. It beggars belief that you could throw away the momentum that Release Me generated.

But worse than that is the recent stuff being ignored. I know my learned friend is correct about this being a lost smash, but Magic Still Exists has two completely (UK) radio ready singles in Fingers Crossed and Here Comes The Night, there was even a ripple of UK media interest and absolutely zero was/ has been done/ picked up.

And let’s face it, finally, she is a fucking excellent pop star. She can really sing, she’s beautiful, she’s striking and, in her most recent incarnation, fairly unique and, awful word, but INTERESTING.

WHO ISN’T GETTING THIS?

I will never understand how 'Here Come The Night' (and FC for that matter) didn't really get any push outside of Sweden. It is amongst the most sublime pop songs of recent years. I keep hoping it will randomly become a hit.

Likewise, but I (love and) appreciate it didn’t do THAT much even at home.

But Fingers Crossed really did and still no one went near it.

I still think Here Comes The Night is a potential smash even now.

Given she's dropped out of Mighty Hoopla, what, three times now? I'm inclined to think that the problem might sadly be her.

Hijacking this thread to bring up this ABSOLUTE BANGER which was thrown on a greatest hits album and then never bothered with again :(

The ANGER from myself and a couple of friends when she dropped out the second time was ridiculous :D

Song is a ten, I never know which version I prefer and I feel there is like 3 or 4 radio versions? But all are tens across the board.

One time she was pregnant, to be fair. But I take your point- the second time just wasn’t ok.
