AS5 E04: SheMZ

So presumably that‘s designed for a Mayhem/India bottom two as the two wallflowers, and Shea to send Mayhem home?
With a side order of Shea and Alexis drama, and another less interesting side order of Blaire and Cracker drama but they’ll make up

I don’t understand how Cracker thought that what she’s doing will make her anything but the villain? :D her aura screams “hate me”

Terrible challenge and the episode as a whole was forgettable. Mayhem makes for some good talking heads but other than that she’s just a bar queen.

The whole episode felt a bit like the show had jumped the shark in an All Stars 1 way. The challenge was weird and the double win at the end was even weirder. Morgan was so clearly stronger.

The result was probably right though. Cracker and Jujubee were a lot better than everyone else in the challenge. Shea was fine but they were correct in saying that Alexis cut her off a lot. Blair was OK but a bit lost. Nobody was particularly horrible, but India and Mayhem just aren't great actors which is fine.

This was all too predictable and really stupid, and I think the judging was all wrong again.
I was worried for Cracker because I thought she seemed the weakest in her group. Juju was the real stand out.
Mayhem was on the other hand, and for once, really good.

Loved the stark difference between Mayhem that didn’t want to vote for India and India who right away threw Mayhem under the bus.

And the voting is again very confusing and just like last week they all seem to have agreed on the voting, because I really don’t understand how they all suddenly chose Mariah and Mayhem over India.

Another episode that barely raised a smile.

For what looked to be a pretty solid cast the challenges are really underwhelming and often just boring.

Mayhem absolutely is just a bar queen, there is nothing more in terms of star power.

I think that one is right down with last season's Sex & The City challenge as one of the worst episodes of Drag Race ever, and not just because Mizz Thalidomide won.

I thought Shea and Alexis would be the bottom two, their routine was almost completely unwatchable. Mayhem was a better pick to go in general, obviously, but the whole thing felt entirely arbitrary and lacking in stakes.

They really need to hire better writers on this show because they're running it into the ground with half-arsed challenges like this.

lol @ that lipsync. It was like drag mother Morgan presenting her messy little daughter Cracker. Morgan absolutely ate it up! Cracker was giving me Kenya Michaels annoying wasp vibes. The tie was clear BS.

I thought Shea and Alexis were the only challenge worth watching :D They had a hint of chemistry/friction as they clearly weren’t best friends at the point of filming. I also didn’t mind Mayhem and India as it was giving me John Waters in one of his lesser works.

Was that Jujubee’s FIRST EVER semi-decent runway..? Loved Shea and India’s looks too.

But yeah all in all, pumping seasons out like a MACHINE is really starting to show judging by the quality of the past few weeks.

Mayhem clearly just doesn't have the killer instinct required for this show. I wonder how she felt when she realised India had no such qualms about hurling her under the bus. :D

Do they not want to save the money for another round making next lip sync worth 30K? I did think Cracker was winning it though but her jumping and twitling was all over the place. And she really can’t do sexy in drag.

And I don’t know if I just didn’t notice/remember but did all the eliminated queens get some pep talk by Michelle and/or the assassin except for Derrick? :D

I don't know if I can even criticise Ru'a judging now, after reading this thread and seeing that everybody has absolutely different opinions about what was good and what wasn't :D

But I'll do it anyway. Alexis and Blair should have been bottom two. With Mayhem added to the list if producers were to decide that this week was gonna be a bottom three instead of a bottom two.

Which is another thing that's annoying - at least give us some insight into why it's a bottom two some weeks and a bottom three other weeks. I also don't like the lack of transparency this season around the groups that have been pre-decided for the challenges. And this week they went one further and pre-assigned roles for each of the queens, too. The last time that happened on AllStars, we had Thorgy Thor being given Stevie Nicks and then being sent home after an episode of her bitterly realising early on that she was being set up to go home. Mayhem Miller would be well within her right to be equally paranoid this season - that's two weeks in a row where she was pre-assigned a group with only two members.

Did anything of note happen on Untucked this week? I can't be arsed with it after sitting through all of last week's episode for them not to even reveal which queens voted for whom at the end, like they did the first two weeks.

And with just Shea and Blair safe, I can't imagine the conversation was all that riveting.

That task, what an embarrassment. I’m always on the fence with this show in that I can take it or leave it but Christ alive. I suppose I watch it out of a sense of gay duty, but these types of toilet humour tasks are becoming far too frequent now. Where is the intelligence, the wit, the subversive humour? It’s literally just nonsense.

It was pretty boring. Everybody voted for Mayhem (including Mayhem :D)

Thank you.

I'm finding myself rooting for India this season, so I'm glad.

I'm not sure why, since she's pretty clearly one note. Though she was genuinely fourth, maybe even fifth from bottom this week. Only Cracker, Jujubee and maybe Shea were better.

The judging was nonsense, as usual.

Jujubee absolutely slayed the challenge, and gave her first ever non-shit runway. Blair was also very good in the scene, and her runway was very creative and looked great in motion.

Cracker was trying too hard in both her scene and her lipsynch (that small portly frame botching cartwheels is just... not... it). And her runway looked off. The wigline was unprofessional.

India should have gone home over Mayhem, if only because Mayhem is clearly more desperate and messy.

My personal highlight of the episode was Ms Morgan turning it out and making me forget all about that BendelaCreme tomfoolery.

I'd like to believe Snatch Game will pull this season back, but neither Shea or JuJu delivered particularly memorable performances in their original seasons, and Blair & India didn't even make it that far. Cracker was actively crap. Only Alexis managed to do something vaguely funny and creative with her butch lesbian version of Alicia Keys, and even that was hardly top tier material.

I'm not NOT enjoying this season though. The lip synch assassin twist means that we generally get a good show at the end, and the riggery of it all means the eliminations have a high-drama component. It's just that the talent itself is not quite there.

I just think they need better, more varied challenges. It seems far too weighted towards half-arsed, unfunny sketch comedy and improv. Where are the design challenges? Give me an episode of them sweating over a hot glue gun in the workroom and bitching at each other!

I'd be fascinated to know the makeup of the writers' room these days. I really do get the feeling it's just stacked with the rich gay children of wealthy network execs. I'd be embarrassed to turn in some of the garbage they're giving the queens to work with in recent seasons.

The combination of queens who really don't fill the brief of All Star, combined with half arsed challenges really makes for some quite unsatisfying viewing.

Totally! I'd imagine this season could have been quite (well, a bit) different for Mariah and Mayhem had it handed them a design/ball challenge rather than ropey acting ones that have VERY LITTLE to do with their real-world drag skillset.

Similarly WHY is there not a regular lip-sync challenge. The one in series 5 they did to old Untucked scenes is one of the best challenges EVER.

Improv challenges really are the worst. Only very few queens have enough talent to make them funny enough. Ugh.

Now even keeping in mind that All Stars is heavily scripted, I can’t get over the judging. And a draw lipsync my arse!!

My ranking of the remainders

1. Jujubee (So relieved she's not Latrice-ing so far. Just naturally delightful)
2. Alexis (Funny, bitchy, a great performer and an excellent strategist, I'm thoroughly enjoying her arc and would not mind at all if she won)
3. Shea (Yes the outfit in week 2 was iconic, but on the whole she's not really BRINGING IT for me yet)
4. Blair (I think she's really being underrated. Not that she's got a hope in hell of winning, but for a relatively early exit she's really holding her own)
5. India (Kinda Roxxxying at this point, but I do wonder if a broader set of challenges might give her a better chance to show her worth. I like that she's fighting so hard, even if she's not really elevating the way she needs to)
6. Mizz Cracker (Foul, though clearly essential to the overall dynamic)

Why the fuck were they gushing over Cracker? She was one of the worst. Basic af runway and stupid performance AS USUAL. There's really not much talent there. India did much better in my opinion.

That lip synch was a lot of fun though.

Morgan's face is questionable, but I can never hate her. She's that bitch.

I agree that we need more design challenges. I know they don't usually do much on All Stars, but it would give Shea more opportunities to be great. Her deconstructed Village People construction worker is still amazing.

Ranking:
1. Shea
2. Juju
3. Alexis

4. Cracker

6. Blair
7. India

I miss Mariah and Ongina. If they could just swap out Blair and India for them in the usual returning queens ep I'd be happy.

I feel like the variety show is the only episode that has delivered. As by now the Queens know to expect it and prepare, I’m semi hopeful we might have a similar effect on Snatch Game next week.

All Stars 5 is a bust. The VH1 exec who wanted to chuck it onto Showtime had the right idea
