The glorious implosion of the Lib Dems

somebody put these USELESS BITCHES out of their misery already!

they stand for NOTHING, they represent NOBODY, they are the banana ice cream of political parties. nobody wants banana! ffs.

Change the record.

I assume you have similar views about the Tory party. Do you want a ONE party system Jark?!

They don't interest me in the slightest. But like Alex, I know they are the only realistic hope of getting Tories out of many West Country seats.

Would you tactically vote for them in a seat that there was no realistic chance of Labour (or Greens) winning, out of interest?

No, I would just like alternatives who are not eternal wet fish like the Lib Dems. Their time has been and gone. Nick Clegg fundamentally and irreversibly damaged them and it's beyond repair. They should disband and let something new grow out of the ashes.

We'll hopefully be relocating to Devon or Dorset in the not too distant future. I don’t want to live (and die) in a Tory fucking seat.

They were written off before and Paddy Ashdown revived the party. If Labour put aside their pride we could actually have a progressive alliance come next elections.

Absolutely - like other European countries are able to do. We need to get over this obsession with the two party system and look for different ways through.

@Jark - I disagree that the Lib Dems are a party that stand for nothing. They stand for over 3.5 million people for starters - and at their peak around 7 million - were those people just voting for nothing?

What the party stands for hasn't changed - openness and collaboration and progressiveness with a genuine desire to do that for all - and I believe that Ed Davey and even more so Layla Moran, are MORE progressive in terms of social politics than Keir Starmer is. I don't understand how a party that more than 1 in 9 people voted for can be seen as 'dead'. Obviously the Swinson period was a big knock for them - and frankly I think Davey winning over Moran is another, but parties can live as support parties in other political systems and I see no reason why they couldn't here.

Lib Dems have always been overrepresented in their vote from teachers though, so maybe I'm biased because of my work. I don't know. Both the Tories and Labour have been pretty diabolical for the education system (and yes don't start on tuition fees... we all know that was part of a deal to get AV on the ballot - I'm so tired of hearing about ONE bad call from a party, when both the two leading parties have made bad calls repeatedly for decades that don't get called upon every 5 minutes) and I really loved the idea of a former teacher leading a political party, so that is another disappointment.

Well, with Keir and Ed at the helm, it could be an alliance at least.

BRING BACK PADDY ASHDOWN.

Oh. Apparently he choked to death on his hat.

I remember seeing Paddy Ashdown speak at Glasgow Uni, must have been 1990 or maybe 1991. He was spontaneous, articulate and answered every question that was put to him without evasion. He also dealt with an attempted takeover/invasion by the Socialist Worker society with absolute dignity.

When you see Boris waffling and Trump's disjointed rambling, it's hard not to wonder what the hell went wrong.

I see Vince Cable was on that channel telling Nigel Farage that the Chinese government aren't engaged in a genocide :manson:

I assume Jo Swinson will be on next week to suggest nuking the Uyghurs.

Oh he was spouting this shit a few months ago too. Lucky nobody listens to him any more really
