Following our successful re-election (in the face of stiff opposition we may add), it is time for the Moderator Elections. This is crucial, as we Admins will be much too busy building a private spa with Moopy funds to do any actual work.

Moderators are here to ensure the smooth operation of the forums. This involves:
  • Moving/Splitting/Merging Threads
  • Editing and Moving Posts by anyone
  • Issuing warnings, bans, and communicating with members where there are problems
  • Provide insight where more complicated issues arise
The first two bullets will be the bread and butter of the role, and there has been an expressed desire for additional moderators so that these tasks can continue to happen promptly as we all have busier lives. However, the last two bullets are just as important, and we hope that these elections will lead to a more diverse team so that the Moopy response to challenging situations is better than it has been in the past.

As such, we would like to encourage people who may not be online as much as others, but still feel they can contribute valuable perspective to behind the scenes discussion to put their name forward.

If you would like to form part of the team, please post in this thread saying you wish to be a moderator and why you think you would be good at it.

Nominations will close 11:59pm on Sunday 19th November. Current Moderators will need to confirm if they wish to stand again.

The election process will be confirmed once nominations are closed.

Thank you, and praise be to your Glorious Administrators.

Now I'm back at my keyboard here is my pitch.

Those of you old enough to remember pogs and half pennies will recall that the VOTE BIG RON campaign was once akin to the Count Binface standing for PM, but over the years I've grown quite fond of this little corner of the internet. I might not be the fastest mod to deal with your mariah carey merge bullshit or always on hand to split another melidofestivalenjurgenharden thread but I make up for it by issuing firm warnings, editing spam content and hosting admin elections when the time comes. I welcome some new blood to this threadbare staff but also want to reassure you that a vote for Ronald is a vote for safety, for continuity. Come home to the impossible flavour of your own completion. Come home and vote Big Ron.

OK, I'm going to apply to make a return. No drama, just admin and mature input.

I'm not really sure what to add. I have a keen eye for relevant edits without prompting. I will likely keep away from the temptation to ban as I know some may worry about previous stints as moderator.

I'm not doing this as an ego trip, or to make Moopy the Ag Show, or to make other poster's lives worse. It's more just putting my money where my mouth is, in terms of the day to day of Moopy. That really is it.

To my benefit, regarding the incident when we lost two major posters, I'd like to think based on my response at the time, I would have tried to address it without the path it went down.

I love Moopy and we don't say it enough, and I'd like to be able to help with the functionality of the longe.

I'll be standing again. I've been a mod for many years now and I like to think I excel at the quiet background stuff that works best when nobody notices it. Little fixes, thread splits, restoring broken links etc. I'm not the most vocal but I put a lot of hours in, working in the background to hopefully make your experience of using the forum smoother and more functional.

In terms of the more sexy stuff, I try my best to not engage in personal conflicts and to listen before I react. I'm not afraid to hold myself and the rest of the mod team to account, and I think I've shown in recent years that I'm willing to speak out when necessary and to fight for all posters to have a safe, positive experience, not just the ones who have the loudest voices. I know I'm not everybody's favourite, but I hope that the majority of posters would feel comfortable to reach out to me if they needed support. I've certainly been in that position on more than one occasion in recent years and I hope that I've proven that I can be discreet, trustworthy and sensitive when it counts.

Much like Louise Redknapp, I may never exactly have been top dog, but somehow after all these years I'm still around, and I'd like to think that counts for something.

I decided I am going to run. I’ve now been posting regularly (excessively) for 3 years and I believe that I would make a responsible and fair member of the moderator team.

I’m online often, and I would respond to requests quickly. I like doing tasks like splitting threads and moving posts and such. I’m also in a different time zone than most moderators, so I would be able to resolve things at different times than others (except for @VoR , who I think goes to bed after me).

Calling myself a diverse voice would be a bit much as a gay, cis, white man, but I am cognizant of other perspectives and would make sure to listen to others and try to make reasonable decisions. I would do my best to be approachable and always listen. I would hope to be someone anyone would be comfortable voicing an opinion or complaint to. I tend to get along with people and not get into arguments for the most part. I imagine that a lot of teamwork goes into being a mod, and I am happy to work with the existing team and anybody else who joins.

Also, I’m American and we ALWAYS respect the results of an election, so don’t worry about me declaring myself a mod if I lose.

To add, if enough folk apply I'll happily pull out. I can already see there's enough posters passively objecting to my application. Memories are long, I get it.

If that's a thing that I've perceived correctly, then no big deal.

It came to my attention some time ago that some unkind comments were made regarding me a while back in the mod forum after a particular furore in a thread. I would just like to put it here that I don’t appreciate getting spoken about in a forum where I am not able to stand up for myself because it is not viewable to me. Fair enough if people want to talk about me via PM (you are all only human) but I would REALLY appreciate if anyone has unkind comments to make about me they do so publicly.

I Thankyou.

Who was it and what did they say? I'm not wanting to vote for anyone doing this quite frankly.

I don’t know who it was by or what was said as I was going through enough shit in my real life at the time to deep dive in to it at that point so distanced myself from here rather than let it get to me. If they are reading this and want to own up now though. Please FEEL FREE.

Wait someone told you that you were being spoken about but didn't say who or what? That's enough to get anyone's paranoia up sky high!

A report was made about a post of mine, then it escalated in to not very nice posts. I was going through a shitty time offline and am glad the poster had my back. Who it was from and the ins and outs of what was said wasn’t really important to me.

I suppose the reason I brought it up is because we are discussing mod elections and I think people here also had a right to know that went on in there.

I think I should join the mod team as I am calm, collected, and have a lot of spare time on my hands these days due to the fact I am officially retired.
Great. It's important to approach voting with a focus on positive contributions and collaboration rather than creating tension. Engaging in a constructive manner helps foster a healthier community.

Of the people that have applied to be a mod, there's not a single one I wouldn't vote for. Which doesn't make this easy.

I'm absolutely up for a good sized team. At the moment we only have what, 4 or 5 actually standing? I think 6 feels like a good number.
