Tokyo 2020 - Day 0 - The Opening Ceremony (Fri 23 July)

I will have it on in the background. Gutted a bit for the situation, because a Japanese opening ceremony in normal times would, I am sure, blow me away. I am sure it will still be good but you're just going to have that "I wonder" feeling in the back of your head
 
Will the flag parade even be going ahead?
 
The flag parade will be going ahead live but a lot of the other parts of the ceremony are supposed to be pre-recorded
 
Hating this BBC green screen studio. It’s uncanny valley territory.

Who is commentating on the opening ceremony? The BBC normally wheel out Hazel Irvine don’t they.
 
Hooray. I was very concerned that we wouldn't have daily Olympics threads this time and I've been saving up Japan puns for the titles for five years.

Well my first bet was wrong, that the biggest boyband Arashi would reunite for a one-off

but two of them are doing commentary in the NHK studio. Maybe for the closing?
 
That Tongan would go to the opening of a supermarket. Didn’t he go to the Winter Olympics?
