Is it a winner?

I'm never betting on Eurovision after my disaster with Amaury Vassili!

I don't know why I try. On Moopy people will complain if they get 10-1 odds of throwing a six on a die.

Oh no it was a good tip! I'm just not a good gambler.

I'd feel disappointed if the results didn't go EXACTLY as I wished them, if I made a bet. Which would make me just like some posters here!

Her Wikipedia page says:

'Molly is to represent the United Kingdom at The Eurovision Song Contest 2014 with a song called Children of the Universe.'

Unless it's a hoax, the song appears to be called "I Will Be Strong".

It's called "Children of the Universe" apparently.

Colour me excited! The cryptic messages people have been tweeting have all been very positive!

It's also been produced by Anders Hansson. Who did Release Me by Agnes and Karma Karma by Same Difference and Alcazar! :o :disco:

I've heard this, but not sure if it's definite? He's been missing from Melodifestivalen for years. I know she's worked with him before, but I'd be (pleasantly) surprised to see him attached to it.

Molly worked with him last year in Stockholm on a track called Beneath the Lights under his Dream Beats name. It's on Spotify. Someone said he mentioned on FB that he was working with a Molly recently. It COULD be Molly Sandén, but unlikely.

:D

I think he also had something to do with an obscure hit called "Det gör ont".

I think that's based on a tweet a few weeks back from the studio or the recording engineer or someone that connected both Molly and Anders to the song.

Could be a case of 2+2=17 but if that's the song the tabloids are going with then who knows...

The guy said this:

"In mastering today: Molly with "Children of the Universe", BIG production by Anders Hansson...HIT warning"

It's apparently an anthemic indie ballad?

Facebook post is HERE. Obvious question is, if they're mastering the song today, what did she sing tonight? They're hardly going to debut a demo tomorrow, are they?

Someone on another forum who went said some of the details were wrong. But then we also had "I Will Be Strong" as a title for a while. I guess all will be revealed very soon.

I thought a while back that no matter how RIGHT the BBC get it, they'll still go for a shit corny "Eurovision" title, so based on that I'm going to guess 'Children of the Universe' is right. I hope not though.

How much did you put on? It seemed like SUCH a cert in the week leading up that I contemplated putting all the rest of my student loan I had on it so I could get an extra fifty quid or something, but I couldn't rule out the off-chance. Mildly terrifying how close I was to doing it looking back!

I think it was only £20 but I had crazy odds. I put it in as soon as the song was released and everyone started going crazy about it. Even though I hated it. I should have listened to my instinct.

I've decided I don't want to bet on the contest as I don't want it to affect my enjoyment of the show.

Last year I put money on songs I DIDN'T want to win (Azerbaijan, Malta and Ukraine) so I'd be happy either way :D

Some reports circulating now that Molly Smitten-Downes has been officially confirmed.

Can't see it being anyone else at this point.

They've gone with an unknown, apparently it's all about the song this year.

Only thing I know her for is that she sang on a SASH! hit a couple of years ago.

Song premiers tonight at 7.30pm.

Thank fuck for an unknown. When was the last time an established star WON EUROVISION? Erm...

There's loads of her stuff on Youtube

Quite an ugly singer, but great powerful vocals. She's done quite a bit of dance stuff, relatively recently working with Darren Styles and of course Sash! as seen above.

She also did THIS, which I loved

I imagine her new stuff to be much more MOR than the Stunt stuff she did.

Oh, and apparently she is just known as "Molly".

She seems to have been trying her hand at anything and everything down the years.

She does give me slight LINDSAY DRACASS vibes. But I remain hopeful of a good song, and she can definitely sing - albeit possibly not in a knockout Jade Ewen way.

The emphasis on song is obviously good. I'm expecting something in between Lena and Margaret Berger.

The BBC have weirdly even posted a news article about it:

Eurovision Song Contest: Little-known artist set to be UK's hopeful

Molly Smitten-Downes has been touring the UK with a multi-instrumental band

The BBC is set to announce the UK's 2014 Eurovision entrant, with rumours strongly suggesting it will be newcomer Molly Smitten-Downes.

This year's contestant was chosen through the BBC's Introducing strand, which champions undiscovered talent.

It marks a break with the UK's recent choices, which have relied on veteran names such as Bonnie Tyler and Engelbert Humperdinck.

Both fared poorly at the contest, with Tyler finishing 19th in 2013.

Guy Freeman, the BBC's executive producer for Eurovision, said in a recent blog post: "We took the view that we needed a bespoke, contemporary song, written specifically to suit the conditions of the competition - rather than trying to get lucky with a pre-existing track from an artist."

He added their chosen artist has also written the UK's entry from scratch, specifically for Eurovision.

In a flurry of social media activity on Sunday night, 26-year-old Smitten-Downes was named as the Eurovision entry by several people at a London video shoot for her song.

The name of her song is Children of the Universe, according to a number of Twitter users.

The musician came to the attention of BBC Introducing with her track Strange Alien, and won best song at the Best of British Unsigned Music awards last year.

Both artist and song will be made officially public in a presentation on the BBC Red Button at 1930 GMT on Monday.

Freeman has called it a "powerful and impressive song that we hope will do us proud in Copenhagen".

The grand final of the Eurovision Song Contest takes place in the Danish capital on 10 May.

I've met her... she was lovely.

"Fade Like The Sun" is AMAZING and would have been a great Eurovision entry.

They don't tend to really send them in the first place these days, or at least nothing more than regional stars in the Balkans, or faded superstars like we send

I'd say Loreen was something of a star in Sweden at least. She'd had a couple of big hits before Euphoria. And she was known from Idol.

Yeah Loreen was known ISH, but as we know the level of celebrity someone has does not corrolate to MF success!

Of the past 10 years, Dima Bilan Gay and Helena Paparizou were by far the most famous, I'd say.
