Is it a winner?

I was thinking this and didn't want to try and correct him... Loreen was verging on being an unknown with 'My Heart Is Refusing Me' right? She was an absolute outsider in her heat with that song and it was a major shock she made Andra Chansen even.

READ WHAT I WROTE

I think that, contrary to popular opinion, the rest of Europe is actually WILLING the UK to do quite well. I find we're quite liked and our music is certainly respected around Europe. Every time we send anything even vaguely good, we do quite well. Jessica, Jade and Blue are the only ones who deserved to do ok, and they did. In fact, they probably out performed what they deserved.

I agree totally. When I was at Eurovision (and I've only been once so I can't talk as an expert) I just felt so much goodwill towards us as a nation - and this was in the year when we sent fucking Daz Sampson. :D (Which incidentally I quite liked, if you're reading Daz :D ) - but people were just apologising for not liking our song a bit more...!

I did! BOTH times you reproduced it. And it was wrong both times! :D

No it fucking wasn't! She was an established star WITH Euphoria BECAUSE of the success of MHIRM (and Sober) after the contest. That she didn't get through AC that year made no odds whatsoever. It was massively more successful than almost all of the finalists that year.

I've only given it one listen to see how catchy it is.

I can remember how about five seconds of it go, which is good, but not as good as Euphoria or Only Teardrops. It will need the juries to be a contender.

This is a truly excellent entry. Definitely the best the UK has sent in YEARS -- I actually think it could win, and I haven't gotten that vibe from a UK entry since 2009.

She'd had ONE HIT SINGLE and one flop follow up, after FAILING on Swedish Idol. It's literally EXACTLY THE SAME as saying ROSIE RIBBONS was an established star in the UK. :D

I just realised this must be what it feels like for football fans when they make a good signing to their team.

I'm going to bed all happy. What a song! :D

No-one has answered my question about what songs they think are more immediate or better written songs than ours in this year's competition though.

I presume it won't be released until around the time of the competition?

I'd quite like us to send something that had actually been a hit beforehand - I guess now that it's been announced though, it's wiser to err on the side of caution and hold off until closer to the date rather than risk it being labelled a "flop" by the British media before it's even made it to the contest.

Sober wasn't a flop follow-up?

From the reactions I really wanted to like this... but I don't really. It's all a bit LATVIA.

Anyway I think I got swept up in all the hype beforehand so it's a bit of an anticlimax. Where the hell did the Margaret Berger comparisons come from?!

Margaret's an odd comparison after listening. I'd say the more obvious comparison's Florence and the Machine, musically at least...

According to Wikipedia it was hardly a SMASH HIT.

The Swedish charts are weird, but it was an iTunes number one and a solid radio hit. For a follow-up hit by an MF debutant - let alone one who didn't make the finals - she was doing very well indeed. Obviously she was right to go back when a song like Euphoria fell into her lap, but if she hadn't been offered a song of that quality, she actually didn't *need* to return to MF at all.

You lot are the first people to tell us that iTunes means nothing, whenever one of your favourite Schlager singers DOESN'T do well on there. You basically change the rules to fit whichever agenda you want!

I'd say it sounds like Bonnie Tyler singing Coldplay. Which lets face it we should have been mimicking our big names for years. We're terribly good at music don't you know?

Loving how some queens basically feel like they OWN Sweden

It's all very Putin but less flamboyant

Anyway I'm with RB - I think the UK is well loved, and I think Iraq and associated traumas are long forgotten.

Oh as IF Iraq actually cost the UK any votes. Sending DOG SHIT year after year is the main reason for NO-ONE VOTING

I'm starting to think that this thread is some sort of BIZARRE IN JOKE

I'm a bit HALF AND HALF about the whole thing.

I think the song is GOOD and it's our best entry in years (damning with faint praise indeed) and so yes, I AM excited. But I'm with OUR SU in the fact that it is only a SIX, MAYBE SEVEN out of ten at best. It's hardly the Eurovision game changer "I Feed You My Love" or "Euphoria" were....

I agree with that really, but then I'll just be happy with top ten. I don't seriously reckon it's a WINNER.

My fear is that it does an Anggun and we revert to type in 2015. But for now I'm just thrilled to have a UK entry that's genuinely in the mix.

I just hope it's unsuccessful enough (and more so commercially than in terms of the ESC) for this year to be the start of a turnaround in terms of how we select and who applies to represent us.

Although who am I kidding - 'just', considering the history it has to contend with? :D

I know perfectly well cwej is just baiting, but he's so FUCKING ANNOYING :D

Posters are always like this when they first start posting actively in the Eurovision forum. Most of them calm down after a few years.

I definitely think this is a calculated baby-steps move. Obviously nobody decent of any profile was interested, but if she does well out of this that might start to change next year.

PRECISELY

Indeed, my thought was "Pot, Kettle..." :D

Not even in my top 10 from SWEDEN this year, let alone a potential winner for Eurovision IMO.

If Ace wins in Sweden I'm sure she will do better than Molly in Eurovision.
(Yes, I am implying that it is harder to win Melodifestivalen than to beat "Children of the world")
