I assume the 8m figure is from Christmas Eve, though. So the figure released tomorrow will be for today.

I imagine it will still get some plays for Boxing Day, but fall off a cliff after that.
Yes that's what I meant, thank you for the Dummies guide!

The streams for Christmas morning as people open their presents will surely account for big numbers.

I dunno, people are lazier than ever. "Alexa...play some Christmas songs...."

I’m not sure what kind of tribute that was :D but that just kept giving!

Did the Jay-Z used to be a Will Smith

1.3m streams on Spotify in the UK alone yesterday, up from 910k on Christmas Eve. Still 58k behind Wham at #1, though. If that is repeated across all platforms and around the world, she's smashed her own record. And possibly the record full stop? I assume thats bloody Sheeran at the moment...

Looks like you're right. Only 14 non Christmas songs in the Top 100 yesterday. And none higher than Eminem at #37.

Globally #1 on Spotify yesterday with nearly 6.5m streams. So I guess it's just a questions of streams from other platforms.

But if you look at the UK data, the top 5 were all above 1m streams seeing significant increases. We must be a lot more into it than the rest of the world.

Has Fairytale of New York tailed off now? I can’t remember it being quite as prominent over the past couple of years.

Wham, seems to have taken over as the second favourite since George died.

On Spotify:

#2 Mariah
#11 Wham!
#20 Pogues
#22 Brenda Lee
#28 Band Aid
#35 Micheal Buble
#36 Ariana Grande
#42 Chris Rea

Is this not awfully early? It's not even December...mind you, office Xmas party season has started.

Also, whoever put up the tag "the fall have passed away" last year, get yrself a lottery ticket.

(you cunt)

I wonder whether YouTube premium will take off in the same way.

I was at a bowling alley a few weeks ago and they were using YouTube video playlists that had clearly been built specifically for certain “occasions”.

TouchTunes is really big here. So many venues have them and I'm always surprised by how much money people spend on them! Or maybe that's just inherent of gay bars.

Given she’s actively in the country with the Christmas tour, does she meet the new chart rules?

I think that will really decide whether or not this has a chance of being number 1.

I've no idea how the OCC will define that rule.

Streaming is still growing in popularity though, so even if she falls foul of that rule, I don't think she's necessarily out of the race.

I’m not sure a tour in itself counts as active promotion but FOR FUCKS SAKE GET HER ON STRICTLY and it BLOODY WELL WOULD BE.

Oh I forgot the new rule. God the charts are stupid, but we’ve had that a thousand times...

I doubt her team even realise. It’s not as if they’ve needed to think about Mariah Carey’s UK chart performance for a while...

Considering the charts with umpteen different streaming ratios, video streams and sales are essentially just made up, I propose at least until some other decent Christmas songs come along, we alternate between AIWFCIY and Kylie's Santa Baby for Christmas #1 every year :disco:

I think the popularity of the song and lack of any new song to complete (as far as I can see anyway) might make this her year - regardless of rule changes.

However, when you have it on repeat with the sound off overnight, remember that reaching No 1 with this is her signal to take on her true form and obliterate the planet. On your own heads be it.

I imagine it goes up a lot at the weekend when there are straight parties/gay brunches happening.

Back down to #17 on Spotify today. Weird.

What Jark said. It's weekend parties. I think it also happened every weekend last year, until the week immediately before Christmas when it was hammered everywhere.

can someone shed a light on this please??

I can't remember the exact rule, but it's something to do with if a song is older than a certain limit, it is subject to a different streaming ratio - I think it would need twice as many streams to count as a 'sale'. But there's an exclusion if it's being 'actively promoted'.

Sorry that's a bit vague, but like I said before, it's ALL MADE UP ANYWAY...
