United Kingdom 2020: James Newman - My Last Breath

I think the rumour I have is John Newman himself. Not sure it’s much better but radio 1 friendly (5 years ago)

I just don’t trust the BBC to not think the best way to celebrate Foxes coming 10th is to immediately draft in Bernie Clifton.

I keep thinking of this and it's giving me nightmares. What exactly are they expecting out of this? In the surely by now entirely possible chance we send something useful (if we are to be cruelly swept up in hopeful rumours like we've not been hurt 15 times before) the odds of sending an actual WINNER are 100 times less likely.

You would just hope that in 2020 the powers that be would raise a glass to anywhere top 10, and not even sniff at 11-15 given even that's not easy to achieve when you're against 20 songs that have had to grimly battle through in the first place.

What happened after 2009, did they not think 5th was good enough? :manson: I don't remember much but I'm sure Jade was quite lucky to get that high even, and a winner it most certainly was not.

Molly obviously bombed relative to expectations but the fact we had a favourite shows we were on the right track and anyone with a pair of ears and eyes could see WHY it went wrong on the night.

Never mind, it'll be different next time :)

I checked wiki and he had a few hits years ago, but I don't know him. Is he any good?

What was that one performance everyone made fun of years ago where he sounded like an actual goat?

Is John Newman the type to think it's all beneath him and he's there to save us all with his credible offering however? I do hope not and he fully embraces the nonsense of it all.

The last thing we need is some detached, smug performance from someone who feels like they don't belong there.

(I've no idea about John/his brother and what they're like personally, but that's another worry sending anyone "current" or at least seen as a "serious artist" in the last few years)

To be fair to John Newman - Love Me Again is a properly good pop song. Pls just change a word or two and send a (very) lazy rewrite of that.

The brother? I don’t know her.

Aren't quite a lot of his songs lazy rewrites of this? :D

I'd happily have that too but not in the suggested mess of a duet form thanks!

Love Me Again is a BOP and I liked that thing he did with Calvin Harris.

I was about to say I wouldn't mind at all if it was him. However, the STATE of him in those photos. :D

And CHRIST at the vocals in that video! Drowning goat much!

He's also not signed to BMG however, so maybe it's not him. *Clutches straws*

Maybe this John guy is just joining Fleur on her arena tour :side-eye:

I have literally never heard of him and he’s had three top ten hits and a number one?

Fuck, I’m old...

One genuinely big solo hit, the others are all features I think(Calvin Harris, Sigala). I would liken him to Ella Henderson in that respect. A huge star? No, but certainly the highest profile artist they´ve sent in a while(If i actually is him).

I was cautiously optimistic when I heard his name, and then I clicked on that video of him singing live.:D

I know who he is, but I've always found him utterly BORING.

I'd be open to a Calvin Harris track of course :disco:

It’s more likely to be his brother I think, with him on songwriting duties. The reason being over John’s fear of large venues mentioned in the BBC interview cited on his Wikipedia page and how comparing himself to other performers is bad for his mental health.

I suppose we should ready ourselves for a moody ballard

No Lisa Lee-Scott or Clare Richardson after all :(
