RANDOM THINGS YOU HATE

FUCKING every third word (as heard in the Arsenal Café today - very low end darlings), although LIKE every third word is obviously FAR WORSE

People who DON’T KNOW HOW TO PRESS A BUTTON.

Just to teach some random on our floor at work how to use the microwave in the kitchen. She literally couldn’t figure out how to press a button. She had the right buttons, but just wasn’t pressing down :wired:

That casual shirts these days all have the collar on the bottom right. I HATE IT.

Managing people at work. It’s insane. I know everyone has their personal and health issues. A good manager will work flexibly with people and come up with the best solution for the person and the company… but that is NOT the manager’s sole responsibility. We have a sizeable group of adults in their 40s and beyond who just think it’s OK to resist doing the job they’re paid to do.

If you have a problem that is preventing you from coming to work or doing your work effectively, why are there SO many people who just think it’s OK to just stop doing it, try to go under the radar and then create a big pile of crap for their manager to deal with?

We have a ridiculous amount of sickness at work it's insane. Always the young staff, constant fevers, headaches, tummy aches. It leaves us so short staffed and they don't get paid for the day. But they just don't care and continue to do it.

I don’t even mind if they actually call in sick, but we have people who log on just to appear online and wait for someone to notice that they’re not actually working, then claim they were too ill to work… but you were fine to log in and do WHAT? It’s like the behaviour of an adolescent pretending to go up to clean their room until their parents have to check in on them.

If you're too ill to work, don't log on! That's what WFH has done; people sign in and then bunk off, expecting to get paid as normal.

They’ve certainly ruined WFH for a lot of people. We’ve only been recommending one day a week in the office until now, but from September they want people working an average of 50/50 on and off site.

This has been met with a lot of resistance. So much that some people have literally moaned directly to the Transport Commissioner, stating that they have moved out of London and have caring responsibilities towards new PETS. Apparently that’s now the company’s problem. Why not quit your job and get something local if it’s such a problem? You knew this wasn’t going to be forever, and why should you be paid extra based on the London Living Wage when you have no intention of returning?

Yes it's the younger people that are less reliable for us too, but they're also less expensive which pretty much explains why.

I think its better to stay home from work if you're sick
Yes, but the same people who pride themselves for going to work whilst infected with THE PLAGUE are the ones who consider just doing your job QUIET QUITTING.

The young are definitely in the right when it comes to attitudes towards work.

As I've got older I've got less and less time for people who nail themselves to a cross, particularly for a corporate behemoth who you are clearly no more than a resource to be ground into the dirt.

I for one like the massive increase in people taking time off. Makes me look less terrible.

If you're genuinely sick then fine. But these youngsters call in sick all the time, maybe 4-5 days each month. And then you see on their insta or stories that they've been out somewhere. Recently one staff was asked 'why can't you come in, what's wrong?' And they replied 'I don't know really, I just can't come'
And then the constant sick days just before a long weekend etc. We had one who was insistent she had 6 days of constant diarrhea and vomiting, I'm sorry but you'd be in hospital if that were the case with severe fluid loss. The 7th day she was back in work and was totally fine. Nothing to do with the fact your sister was visiting the week before then??

Those of us left behind not only have to bear the brunt of extra work, but we're left to deal with the abuse from customers complaining about us being short staffed.

Basically it's the LYING about being sick, or calling in sick because you've broken a fingernail type of youngster that's annoying.
Yep. There’s being a martyr and working yourself to the bone, and then there’s just being a lazy shit who doesn’t seem to take any pride in what they’re paid to do.

I've spent most of my adult being deeply NOT PROUD of any of the shit work I've done. There's so much more to life than a 9-5. I fucking hate it.

Perhaps it depends a bit on your line of work. I don't think with job like mine just fulfilling your contract really works. You've got to care and take pride in what you do.
I did feel mild prestige working in an opticans to be fair. That was just a super toxic workplace.

And now, do you still feel that way in your current line of work? You do SUCH an important job!

I'm proud of my work, but I don't think thats a requirement, and I definitely don't feel proud because I worked a certain number of hours or never called in sick (this isn't what Star is saying I know, but does seem to be a common sentiment)

Well with us it’s ADMIN, but there’s so much responsibility. if you don’t care to do the diligent checks, you could literally be giving rapists, drug dealers and violent criminals licences to take children to school.
