The streaming, I suspect, is still lackluster this time around? I feel like as long as it continues to tick a thousand or two pure sales for the foreseeable future it will limp its way to 100k. It should see more activity in Nov-Dec too, or with an inevitable deluxe release.

Padam Padam is at 82.9 million streams to date. Tension is on 10.6 million.

To compare to another legacy artist, albiet one who's had longer to pick up streams, P!nk's Trustfall is on 176m and Never Gonna Not Dance... is on 121m.

On a more recent release calendar, Troye Sivan's Rush is on 134m and Got Me Started is on 20m.

I dunno, Padam has definitely been her biggest hit in a good long while and that's amazing, but it feels like maybe in the end it was more about her label figuring out how artists of her stature can game the charts, than her actually connecting with a new fanbase...

I am surprised US radio latched on to "Padam" without it ever seeing any streaming action in the US. It definitely connected in the UK though, it just didn't seem to extend to curiosity for the rest of the album.

I think fans have over egged the impact PP has from an album point of view. It’s been a nice little hit for her. But that’s not going to cause 38 year old Greg from finance to go and buy a physical album of Kylie Minogue, nor will he obsessively stream a new album simply via liking one of her latest singles.

what new fanbase? she's 50 something and she's been going 35 years. her fanbase as big as it's gonna be.

I think the casuals who got on board with Padam Padam will go to see her on tour and that's where we'll see the impact of her new cultural relevance, not on album sales. but they should announce that tour now rather than waiting for next year.

I think even though the album sales have been a tad lower than we may have thought, with the Audience with coming sales will tick over, and with vegas, the tour and just generally her stock is still so high that I don't think after the X era she could have dreamt to still be where she is now in terms of her career.

and Kylie would definitely shut the truck doors before midnight so S Club could get in the arena.

I wonder if she would do stadiums or at least one?

If she can do 4x the 02 then that's one night at Wembley Stadium, and she may want to do LESS SHOWS given she has Vegas. It would also be a statement to do stadiums

I wouldn't be averse to her chucking out a new album or at least a substantially extended Tension (nothing like the poor effort of Disco's GLE) before touring proper.

Are the any restrictions to the number of new songs that can be added to an existing album before it becomes chart ineligible?

It is a big drop but context is important. If you take out any album that is a Greatest Hits, is brand new this week or has been in the chart a year or more then there is only about 7 albums in the top 40 that are what you would call ‘current’. And 6 of those are streaming forces (Olivia, Ed, Burna Boy whoever that is etc). I’ve just noticed Rihanna’s Good Girl Gone Bad is #57 this week - this alone sort of sums up the state of album charts in general in 2023.

It‘s actually nearly impressive to be top 40 for a third week as a fanbase/heritage artist with a studio album. Doja Cat is #78 this week as a comparison to someone else releasing the same week that has a studio album out and is popular with the masses.

It is a big drop but context is important. If you take out any album that isn't Kylie Minogue's 2023 album 'Tension', then she's number 1 for a third consecutive week :disco:

I'm sure Ellie Goulding has the answer for us (spoilers: it's not less than 45)

I don't think An Audience With will make much difference at all in terms of sales of Tension - probably in the hundreds rather than the thousands, unless there's a new edition which sells 90% to people who have already got it, anyway. For one, I wouldn't be at all surprised if we see only three tracks from it, at least on the edit which makes it to TV.

Like Jark says (and unfortunately not what I'd previously thought or hoped), it will be shifting tickets where she'll make money from 'new' fans.

that lewk with the nude print dress and the boots is actually her best high fashion serve in years and years. i'm fucking gagged.

Ed Sheeran is following a similar if not slightly worse trajectory. Who could have imagined that of a Kylie album in the year of the lord 2023?
