Survivor UK (Back after over 20 years away!)

For the UK one?

I certainly don't need it. I like Christopher's speedos and hot pants, but that's about it.

I wouldn't say no to Pegleg. 🤷‍♂️

But Nathan is

I'm keeping up with this, but for me it IS 3 out of 5, on-in-the-background tv. Some of them are hot, it's nice to get a blast of sunshine when we've hit winter, and I enjoy some of the challenges, but that's about it. They're all talking earnestly about alliances and winning immunity and it all feels so silly and inconsequential

Heartbroken that Leilani's VT made no mention of her pop star past.

At this stage I want Doug to win I think. Jess is my other favourite but has absolutely no chance.

Singing Christopher's SMOOTH OPERATOR VT had me HOWLING
He's got a HOT BODY and seems decent but discovering he's one of those (I assume) gays who thinks he's a pop star put me right off. You're NO LEILANI, PAL

Sometimes I have to remind myself that Jess isn't Traitors Maddie

Yes! She's like her slightly less fun older sister.

There's something about the way Joel handles those cards and holds his hands that gives me the ick.

I hate how he gives a full update of how many votes there are for everyone after he has read every. single. new. vote. YES HUN WE CAN REMEMBER WHAT THE TOTAL WAS 5 SECONDS AGO

I have enjoyed Ren getting the immunity idol clue and gradually having people discover this and that she was a liar... only to have seemingly done nothing to get the immunity idol and reap none of the benefits whatsoever

It's interesting that the idol has caused some grief in the game though, even though Ren didn't get the benefit of it. And now Doug thought he was going to benefit from distance from Ren, and thought he could buy trust in Pegleg heading over to Caletón with it, yet it's seemingly only made Pegleg more suspicious.

I found that annoying. It's a good opportunity for them to encourage votes for Doug so that they can get Nathan out. I thought episode 6 was very strange tactically. Rather short sighted.

I wouldn't be so sure about Jess. Once they get to individual stage, the men will become the targets (because they are playing this game so old fashioned - women out pre-merge, men out post-merge).

Though I agree, if Doug makes it to the end, he has the best pre-merge game so far by a long way. Separating himself from Ren and leaving the heat with them was a stroke of genius really.

Pegleg did seem more suspicious after Doug told him that, but I doubt he'd do anything against Doug at this point. He'd be better off not telling the rest of the tribe, letting them put votes on Doug (who plays his idol) and then siding with Shai to have a majority once one of the other 3 is gone.

Lee voting 'incorrectly' every single week... I don't think he really understands the game at all.

I just checked and it took 2 minutes 42 seconds from Joel saying 'it's time to vote' to 'I'll go count the votes'. With no advantages, no drama. Just them walking up and down from their seats.

In the American version, the whole thing took 54 seconds in a recent episode INCLUDING a player playing an advantage.

Why is the UK version SO SLOW?

God I really do wish Joel would SHUT THE FUCK UP during this challenge. I'd be much more interested in hearing how they are communicating with each other than Joel incessantly narrating.

Yes he is really grating on me now.

Not reading yet for fear of spoilers but I am on episode 7 and loving this. Slightly in love with Laurence.

Excited that there are about 1000 seasons of this across US and Australia once I'm done to get through.

Letters from home? TOO EARLY

It was such boring telly too - the odd affecting moment (Lee's family stuff) aside. There was no reason for it to have taken up TWENTY MINUTES with what felt like every single campmate reading out their letter as a different mawkish song played.

It was at that point I decided this would be my last episode of even having it on in the background, BUT THEN in a shock twist the team vote shenanigans towards the end changed all that. It only took 8 episodes, but it really came alive and I found myself feeling genuinely involved for the first time. I'm so happy Shae got binned off. HORRIBLE LAURENCE NEXT PLEASE.

Joel Dommett remains appalling. I like him on The Masked Singer and in his wank videos, but not here.

Doug and Tinuke are my favourites.

Doug seems to be the only one with a semblance of a case at final tribal though, so far at least. How many of them have actually DONE anything so far other than play the game at a superficial level?

Yes Doug FTW

I do enjoy Christopher's commitment to GAY DRAMA as well, but his shenanigans this week could come back to bite. It was nice to see a more human side of Lee with his letter, but I agree that part went on much too long.

And I cannot even describe for you how much better they are. If you're liking this then I'm so pleased for you because this is just AWFUL in comparison in every single way. I can't think of one comparison that is better. I'd say that these players are less strategic even than our first season back in 2001 (though they're marginally better than the 2nd UK season, where they actively had no interest in strategy at all).

Episode 8 spoiler:
Voting off Shai made ZERO sense on so many levels! Nathan has more friends on the other side, is more likely to do well in individual challenges, is more likeable... yet again a complete lack of strategy - Pegleg and Doug had actually managed to pull off quite the coup getting Jess out the previous episode but just played it so bad again this episode. Any decent Survivor player would see that keeping Shai is a good thing to do - drag him to the end and sit next to him in final tribal!

And don't even get me started on the decimation of the non-male players. Finally they vote out a man BECAUSE THEY LITERALLY HAD TO. Why are they STILL obsessed with 'challenge strength' when they're about to merge?

Also, WHY was that a tribal immunity challenge? That is clearly either a reward challenge OR it would work well as an individual immunity challenge. Every decision these producers make is bad. I'm so annoyed!!

Doug and Tinuke are my two favourites too - I just wish there was more to go on though.

On a very basic level I was pleased because it made Nathan happy and he is absolutely beautiful when he's smiling. But I agree, from a strategical perspective it made no sense. Shai was far too useful as a shield because nobody seems to like him anywhere.

I think Doug was thinking far too short term in terms of having Laurence there to get rid of next if necessary, rather than thinking long term.

I know I posted a few weeks ago about Kristie playing from the bottom in Aus Survivor, but she had no choice but to really, most of the time. That's not the game Doug has come to play, according to his VT. And getting rid of Nathan would have been a big thing for his CV at final tribal.

Exactly!! Definitely should have done it. These players are just useless.

Were this weekends episodes 7 and 8? I think they’re possibly showing them 1 behind here which is frustrating.

I don’t think it’s awful, but yes not nearly as good. It’s all so rough around the edges, and the players don’t seem to have any idea what they’re doing.
