French Elections 2024

I still find the French system really quite (girl) so confusing sometimes, but I'm obviously thrilled the LEFT have prevailed, even if it's just a reprieve of a few years. the French as much as anyone could use a bit of CALM and a little less OVERTLY RACIST CHAOS.

When their candidate stepped down, leftist voted overwhelmingly for the centrist candidate (72%) against the far right (3%) while 25% abstained.

While the other way around, only 54% of centrists voted for the moderate left (Greens and Socialists) and even less for the left, 43%. Between 15 and 19% of them preferred to vote for the far right.

Two centrists candidates also refused to step down when coming third behind the the left and the far right, leading to two far right candidates being elected.

The left really doing all the heavy weight lifting to save this country’s arse, while centrists sit on the fence between socialism and fucking fascism :manson: 🚮🚮🚮

Centrism rots the brain. Imagine suppressing the basic "what is right and what is wrong" question in your own mind and expecting some radical new thought to occur.

What’s going on in France, I’ve heard precisely NOTHING since the election?

Macron has descended into authoritarian madness, basically refusing to acknowledge the results of the elections.
He fully expected Le Pen's party to win and was ready to name Bardella Prime Minister before the elections. Surprise, surprise, the united left won. Albeit with a relative majority. In 5th Republic, the President's sole role is to nominate a Prime Minister from the winning party or coalition and it's up to THEM to form a government that wouldn't get struck down. He has refused to do that and is basically doing the negotiations and government forming himself. CRAZY BITCH.

Centrists are such dumb whores, it’s a fucking joy to watch. They will always choose the hardest right out there, doing everything to please them and still end up getting fucked over by them. What a humiliation for Macron.

Legitimate question. Why are all the outlets saying that the government "collapsed" or "toppled"? Is it just a technicality? Or is it really that dramatic?
