I wonder if run time is part of it. Moana 2 is only 100 minutes long vs 160 minutes for Wicked.
I was wondering that when looking at screen averages in the US. Because that's presumably based on the number of screens, rather than the number of showings?

Lots of big territories, including France, Germany, Poland, Netherlands, Belgium and China only opened this weekend. I think Japan is the main one that hasn’t opened yet.
It hasn't had a general release in Germany, Austria and Switzerland yet, the official release date is December 12. I doubt it will make a ton of money there though. It's pretty much only a US/UK and Ireland phenomenon. Maybe it will do well in Japan, they had the stage show as well and Universal had a Wizard of Oz-themed land.

I guess that's the reason for staggering the release? If it doesn't have the Broadway/West End and numerous touring productions fanbase to give it a solid foundation like it was always likely to get in the US and UK, perhaps they thought it was better to let the (hopeful) US success of the movie itself sell it - particularly when Moana was right there to potentially kill it off if it opened poorly.

Teetering on the verge of upgrading to a 10, btw.

I fully intend seeing it again at the cinema before it closes. Most likely for the singalong version. I don't necessarily get the urge to sing along itself, but I do keep wanting to burst into applause after every song, and I'm guessing there will be a lot of that at the singlong version.

I just looked at my local cinema and it has 10 available showings for Moana 2 and 5 showings (and 2 IMAX showings) for Wicked.

That may mean little but looking at the week schedule for next week it stays around double the amount of showings

6 nominations for the Golden Globes, but nothing for Director or for Jonathan Bailey. Emilia Pérez got 10 nominations, so it has tough competition for the Best Musical / Comedy category :o the buzz and box office might help it, but Perez has to be the favourite at the moment...

Ahhhh making my yearn for those XF group performances again

(Not really)

The boy who did "everyone deserves a chance to fly" should have been eliminated on the spot

I have listened to “I’m Not That Girl” far too many times today.

I really love Cynthia’s version of The Wizard Of I. It’s just a shame that they stitched the Madame Morrible intro into it so you have to endure that bit first before getting to the good stuff.

The way Cynthia soulfully leans into some of the lines is just gorgeous.

Those crazy Moms are at it again - boycotting Wicked this time

Even if you have seen “Wicked: Part One,” you can commit to not watching “Wicked: Part Two.” :D

FINALLY went to see this. Will preface by saying i’ve never seen the stage show but taken at face value I thought the performances were generally excellent across the board (sans wooden Michelle Yeoh … sorry babes). Will echo everyone in saying that I now really GET why people stan Ari because she was absolutely the best thing about it.

NOW - off to fall asleep to a video essay longer than the movie itself about the sapphic undertones in the RATHER INTENSE friendship between the leads.

When she got the part and said she was take care of Galinda, she wasn’t half telling the truth. If she’s not exaggerating, it sounds like she took care of the whole production.

She didn't stick up for "innuendo... outuendo" though :(

Not that it would have been right, that opening sequence is more downbeat than in the show.
