The UK: The Keir Starmer years

It says I'm a DISENGAGED BATTLER, which I AM, but not in the way they describe

What a load of old rubbish

God, they're PATHETIC. This HAS to be deliberate. I'm not one for conspiracies but it's hard not to wonder if Sir Keir is part of a project to destroy Labour from within that has absolutely succeeded.

I'm guessing that's related to this as it's the same group behind the study:

Thought this interview with Ash Sarkar which deals with a lot of this criticism was super interesting, and I've now ordered her book.

Have we not mentioned that Starmer is increasing defence spending? Wholly overdue considering there's been a war in Europe for three years. However they're cutting international aid *sigh*

He also came at Farage during the press conference, calling him a Putin sympathiser, so that was something, I guess

I would assume all of Europe has to in light of Trump

it seems like he has to throw Trump a bone and respect the commitment to meet the 2.5% spend for NATO to try and keep the US onside in Ukraine talks.

Astonishingly Starmer appears to have absolutely smashed his meeting with Trump. Every front page is broadly positive. Not sure if the praise comes from such low expectations.

On one hand I'm impressed he's mastered impressing and boot kissing Trump for the UK's benefit. On the other EURGH.

Yeah i was surprised at how positive the news coverage was.

Even if the usual right wing loons on comment sections are going "HE LIED TO TRUMPS FACE" when defending the right to free speech in the UK.

The Fail obviously belittled him by calling it a 'bromance' so they are being backhanded.

Starmer also did a Macron on JD Vance, who claimed the UK was impending free speach.

I actually think Trump is going to play into Starmers hands. He's already talking about the Ukraine peace deal as being something collective, stopping it all looking like Trump. He's giving Trump enough to keep the tariffs at bay while also standing up to him in certain areas. He should be able to pull this off with his background, and I'd rather Starmer be navigating this very tricky path than some sort of slobbering idiot like Boris.

I’m disturbed that ministers feel the need to print and scan their (wonky) resignation letters.

Basic self-respect really. She just had her budget halved overnight with very little notice. It's a terrific resignation letter too - entirely accepting of all the key premises, but rejecting how much of a false 'easy' solution the one they've gone for (in the short term) is anyway.

She's also had to eat quite a LOT OF SHIT over the years with some really difficult, thankless jobs which she hasn't got much recognition or appreciation for, so good for her.

They seemed to give her a demotion every six months so it's at least given her a chance to go with dignity before she got handed her exciting new role as Junior Parliamentary Undersecretary to the Twink That Holds Rachel Reeves' Handbag.

Plus she gets to give up the role of minister for being continually asked on social media to define a woman.

He's been busy rounding up European leaders over the weekend over Ukraine. He's absolutely killing it at the moment. I'm not entirely sure I expected him to be a top end statesman. I note the press still on side to varying degrees.

Zelensky meeting the King today is a bitchy FU to Trump.

Fair dos, Starmer is doing well here. It's shame he can't apply a similar mode to his domestic activities but I dare say averting WWIII is not a bad thing to take to the electorate.

There's a chance he'll do a Chamberlain (umbrella included) and fuck it all up, but it's not the same game, and he's gathering agreement across the continent. It will be a collective fuck up if anything.

So far he seems to be coming off as a great statesman and it really does piss all over Farage which is can only be a good thing

WHATEVER you think of him, HOW THE ACTUAL FUCK did Starmer EVER end up with a worse approval rating than SUNAK MANAGED? :D
