Yeah I'm with him there.

I'm thrilled that we didn't have a boring inevitable result and something interesting actually happened, but the toxic parts of the Eurovision fandom (i.e. the ones who don't have a job and talk nothing but Eurovision :eyes:) are relishing in his defeat, even days later.

I'm sure I, at the time in my slightly wine-tipsy state, probably made a comment him looking pissed off, but there's always those who take it TOO FAR and will take one reaction from one snapshot in time and assume a WHOLE personality and evil intentions behind it. Can't these people look at hindsight and give him some credence for being a bit upset?

Yeah, but also John Lundvik.

Yeah I do feel for him. There's the weirdest culture in the Eurovision community about tearing down people who actually share our passion for it from an inside perspective. Artists who compete multiple times are 'desperados', songwriters who contribute to the songwriting camps are 'hacks' etc.

Did he react badly/defensively in that moment? Sure. But i don' think he deserves the level of vitriol he's been getting. He's been preparing for this for months if not years. That doesn't mean he had any more right to win than any of the other contestants, but I think it's understandable that it'd all get to him a bit in the moment, particularly when it becomes obvious the crowd isn't particularly on your side.

I don’t know that he even DID react badly in the moment! It was only the twisting by said toxic fandom who made it that way and refused to listen to anything to the contrary (Hi Alla and “I don’t believe a word that comes out of his mouth”)

I absolutely didn’t want him to win, but not because of him or wishing him any harm/ misery. He’s a former winner, a great performer, was one of the hosts of a truly great contest where he was happy to take the piss of himself and has shown time and again he loves the contest. He should be celebrated rather than scorned.

Do I feel bad for him, yeah a little.

Am I still amused at this excellent reaction shot? OF COURSE

Can I ask?

Why?

Because that to me is just a man who looks sad. Not someone furious a la Lundvik, not someone being a cunt…

I just don’t get this desire to see someone miserable.

It’s an interesting point that many here might be too young to remember but when Carola crashed and burned with Andreas Jonsson, there was lots of glee surrounding that. She’s never entered since.

Now, whilst I don’t think Eurovision needs another Carola comeback and there may be plenty of other reasons, Måns’ comment makes it seem unlikely he’ll try again anytime soon either and, basically, it comes down to this: is MF with those two in it a better or worse thing?

I know which side of the fence I’m on.

It's the drama, Sheena. I just love it!

Although I do think the way he spoke to multiple journalists on the night, in multiple languages, is worthy of a bit more criticism than if he just made one off the cuff comment before he got his game face on. However, I don't think it is that big a deal in the grand scheme of things. We surely want a full range of emotion from our entertainment anyway

There is also the argument he’s expressing himself in various languages that aren’t his own and things are being lost in both idiom and translation from those languages…

I agree with the “drama” aspect being entertaining, but sorry, that is not the same as finding a man looking upset “amusing”. It’s schadenfreude in a way we attach to celebrities more than anyone else because of our own jealousies and insecurities or what the fuck elseies.

God knows we’ve all done it, though…

It’s a little more nuanced than laughing at a man crying , it’s the fact that he spent the whole build-up claiming not to be in it to win it, only to then not being able to be the gracious loser he said he’d be- he criticised the international jury, suggested that KAJ will flop in Basel, and wasn’t able to be happy for the winner - he said he went backstage and started kicking things? - this sort of energy takes away from the winner’s experience and undermines the process.

I think there are a few things at play here. Is he right to be disappointed? Of course - he came very close to winning and didn’t, and that’s always going to sting. But he’s no more entitled to feel disappointed than, say, Malou Prytz for coming what was probably a devastating 5th in her heat, or Victoria Silvstedt for her record breaking app vote failing to register. At the end of the day, you haven’t won until the crown is firmly on your head.

If the reports about his comments and behaviour afterwards are true, then criticism of that is fair. But the fandom is another story. We joke about the intensity of some fans, but there’s a real toxicity that now seems to flare up every year. Just look at the comments under the UK official video - Remember Monday are getting attacked by fans of Kant over a completely debunked claim that the BBC complained about the Maltese entry. It’s wild. The way people latch onto rumours and go after artists is genuinely worrying.

I think both things can be true at the same time. Yes of course he's human and I'd rather he were open about his disappointment than just trotting out the polished PR lines, but it did slide a bit from disappointed to ungracious at times.

Did I find it slightly amusing to see the mask slip in such a fashion after playing the Mr Humble part so well over the last few weeks? Absolutely.

Do I think there should have been this mass pile-on from the hoards of deranged Eurovision fans insisting on registering their disgust with him directly? No of course not, and when taken as a whole yes of course it's all a bit of an overreaction to his response.

Yes, and I also think there's a difference between people reacting to something in the moment, and people waking up days later and STILL pedalling that same vitriol after the dust has settled in an attempt for what? Rising it all up again because you've not got a lot else going on?

What the fuck? Like if I wished him death. It's a fucking forum, I didn't posted it on his IG, for god's sake. And who cares anymore, get over it!

Tell that to VV BROWN.

But whatever you thought OF THAT situation, it’s an interesting point. “Oh it’s just an internet forum, it’s not wishing him death on IG” is not an excuse to say what you like about people.

I’m playing devil’s advocate a lot here, I realise (and I also know I have a very patchy past in this regard) but as a society, we’re just not learning from our mistakes about stuff like this…

And we all know that Måns is ABSOLUTELY the kind of desperado who is probably monitoring this forum AS WE SPEAK for critical comments!

WTF??? Did I wish him death here or anything similar? :D Whatever, bored now.

Who amongst us hasn't been called a whore on the internet?

Whilst he may have a point, it seems a bit undermined by the bit (coincidentally the only bit not in English :eyes:) where he starts the message with “dear narrow-minded haters”

This was a translation, insta didn’t translate the first bit for some reason.

Also, whilst it was always clear that Revolution was similar structurally to Heroes, I didn’t realise you can literally play it over the performance and it fits perfectly :D

That’s incredible.

Oh not the "ha ha ha it's all shits and giggles, look how well I'm taking it :)" act. Still giving people ammunition and just drop it now!
