As a feminist I believe that women have just as much right to be a DICKHEAD as men do, and as such I reserve the right to believe that Katy Perry is a MASSIVE DICKHEAD.

But I don’t think that’s the point here, is it? I am also NO FAN, but why is she the one taking 99.99999% of the “criticism” (and I use the term lightly, cause it’s mostly just being nasty)?

The answer is that she’s everyone’s favourite punching bag right now.
 
Oh I’m not making a point about this debate or her being bullied. That may or may not be true. I don’t read entertainment news or newspapers generally and I don’t comment on social media anymore.

My views are strictly MOOPY related and on moopy everyone is FAIR GAME.

And especially if they are indeed a MASSIVE DICKHEAD!

right - but that is wildly irresponsible and should be criticised. the individual emissions are over 100x the emissions of somebody taking a regular flight. and she's not even fucking going anywhere except the exact place she started. I'd criticise any billionaire doing that if they weren't all anonymous pricks and I'll criticise Katy Perry for it - and ESPECIALLY for branding it as a feminist triumph, which is not only idiotic but actively insulting and regressive for genuine feminim.

and it's honestly weird that you're taking it so personally. she made her bed, let her take a week of heat in the media for it before it all blows over and everyone forgets what a dickhead move this was.
 
For me the line is pretty straightforward.

Making fun of her for releasing a bad record or saying/doing something cringeworthy - fine if it's funny and in a lighthearted spirit. I've already listened to some genuinely funny takes on this Space trip, which WAS very stupid and cringe.

Calling her a cunt or singling her out as some worse than hitler moral monster every time she does anything in public - Not fine.

You’re still missing the point.

It’s not a backlash- it’s an anti Katy Perry pile on. Everyone else is getting fuck all and the stuff goes way beyond criticism. It’s not okay.

I'm not. you are. she's the most famous one by a mile - that's literally why she was invited. if Dua Lipa went up with Jo Whiley do you think the criticism would be equally shared? she is there as the face of the stunt. it's called PR. that's why she's taking a good portion of the shit.

But it’s still not okay that that’s the case, whether she’s the “face” or not! It’s personal. It’s (ironically) misogynistic. It entirely misses the fact that the EQUALLY FAMOUS JEFF BEZOS is the real evil here.

Does ‘it’s just internet culture’ mean we shouldn’t interrogate it a bit though?

This is all getting a bit hysterical, but my basic concern is that what began as a bit of fun about a frequently annoying pop star releasing a crap album, and some justifiable critique of her collabs with Dr Luke, has inevitably curdled into something quite relentlessly nasty and disproportionate to her crimes, real or imaginary.

In conclusion, you can still make fun of her! Just don’t be a horrible cunt about it.

Because targeting criticism at Katy (or any of other passengers) is futile and maybe even counter productive.

If people really do have ethical objections to Bezos' insane space shit, the criticisms MUST be aimed at him. He will otherwise simply continue what he's doing with different human shields.

Those rocket launches were happening irrespective of Katy Perry's involvement. She says no, we simply end up with Carrie Underwood EVIL in space instead, or perhaps no celebrity whatsoever and there's even less media attention on Bezos' shenanigans.
