Cyndi Lauper - New documentary + farewell tour

The upper sections were conspicuously curtained off, but there was enough to make the floor and first level sections seem pretty lively.

I'd say about on a par with when I saw Janet at the same venue last year.

Glasgow got Mike Ruiz. Well, he was Tracy Young's lap-dog in the audience after a thumping DJ session of playing her faves from her CD wallet (had no idea she would be rocking the decks like a derranged Hazell Dean - it was quite something).

Cyndi getting to be Cyndi on a level that truly did her legacy justice (and then some) was really breathtaking in places. I'll never forget I Drove All Night revving up - with the video projected onto her like it is in the actual video, it was a realm of Cyndi fan fantasia I didn't want to leave.

@Kate, what was the song she left out? If you're meaning All Through The Night, sadly that's not likely to be back as she's struggled to adapt it to her current range.

Speaking of though. Her voice was fantastic when we seen her - she fluffed one of the lines in I Drove All Night actually, and Gloria Estefans' daughter may have made a mistake somewhere too (Cyndi asked her if she got a scare, and clearly loves her, bless). Thankfully there was nothing I could fault her on. She truly went there on both Money and Change of Heart - I was in awe.

Sally's Pigeons I was previously over with, or so I thought. She was done up in a way that made me think we were actually going to get The World Is Stone. It was absolutely gorgeous though. However, it came at a period in the set where she was taking a hell of a long time to share stories (to my susprise the crowd really lapped this up), so after a long spiel about 1950s music ... we get Funnel of Love. She could have done a Blue Angel song like I Had A Love and perfectly evoked the era she was funnelling channelling. Shock horror, IKO IKO was the other that didn't quite keep the momentum going. However, how amazing was it to still see William Wittman (who I still think looks fantastic on stage)? We were beside some knowledgeable fans so little moments getting big applauses was so special. The Madamme LuPone backing singer was also a hoot.

The hits simply soared. Could not believe Shine though. It was so special, this song that delivers one of the biggest lump-in-throat moments from her ("and time, it won't let me let you let me waste it - this time"). 16 year old me dancing to that song in my room dancing to it an erena in awe of her here was not something I thought I'd ever experience.

Maybe because of the extended dulcimer years, but Time After Time in its orginal arrangement was the unequivocal reminder of this woman's pop culture impact, with True Colours and Girls completing the never to be duplicated trail.

Oh, and Fearless acapella was further proof of THE VOICE > I woke up with it in my head the next morning. So proud of her and hope it gets a release and screening.

Theres an album-by-album feature in the latest issue of Classic Pop

I got a bit emosh during I Drove All Night 🥹 and True Colours. And yes her voice was fabulous!

I’m not actually sure what she missed but I think it was whatever she was supposed to do in the red and yellow costume before she ripped the yellow off… she genuinely forgot and was like “why did no-one tell me?!” to the band :D

Saw her last night, an up for it audience packed to the rafters here. The show was fabulous, what a queen to quote Kate. Some friends came who just knew the hits and enjoyed the whole thing including her monologues and anecdotes. The middle section of the show did need at least one more generally recognisable song I’d say, even if it were a reworked version of say All Through The Night or The World Is Stone to suit her vocal. But no complaints here, it was lovely to see her getting her dues.

Cyndi’s Spotify numbers are quite impressive. Time After Time recently hit 1 billion streams. Obviously everything beyond the top 3 trails behind significantly, but I’d wonder how she stacks up total streams along the other 80s females. Is there another with multiple 1b songs?

1.411b Girls Just Want to Have Fun
1.030b Time After Time
302m True Colors
66m All Through the Night
65m I Drove All Night
44m The Goonies R Good Enough
28m She Bop
14m Money Changes Everything
10.4m Change of Heart
10.2m When You Were Mine

This is from UK Mix- a bit outdated from January but yes she is the only 80s female with multiple 1b streams.

Interesting list and impressive stat for Cyn. Thought ‘I Drove All Night’ might have more but to my uninitiated eyes that looks a good streaming figure for it too and I guess maybe some of her potential streams get eaten into by Roy and Celine on that one.

How often are these lists updated? She’s not that far off #1, which surprises me (in a nice way)
Looking at the top five, these were the gains in the last 3 months. Cyndi’s tracks seem to be gaining the most (except Whitney who’s on pace with her) though I don’t know the trends beyond the last few months. It will take a bit but she could occupy #1 and #3 if she keeps it up. Legends only.

1.Whitney Houston - I Wanna Dance with Somebody +59 million
2.Cyndi Lauper - Girls Just Want to Have Fun - +61 million

3.Kate Bush - Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God) - +44 million
4.Tracy Chapman - Fast Car - +43 million
5.Cyndi Lauper - Time After Time - +51 million
