A thread for experimental, obscure and really interesting electronic music

@octophone, I think we need to introduce our Estonian correspondent to Coil. Truly the APEX of experimental, obscure and interesting to say the VERY least

Don’t post ‘The Anal Staircase’ yet though. We’ll need to ease him in gently :horny:

Yes, good idea @Zu-Klara, prefereably before Thighpaulsandra starts flogging Peter's used cumrags on eBay and Danny Hyde has issued the last remixed fart he can scrape off his hard drive....

Not electronic but prepared piano. It is on Warp though. I love this and, indeed, the whole album. She's a bit of a genius and that's not a word I chuck about lightly...

Oh that sounds rather marvellous. I may have to invest

On an electronic front, I went to see William Basinski the other week and as much as I liked getting out of the flat for once, it was really quite boring, even if the actual music was more than alright. I mean how exciting can it be to watch someone stand up and basically press PLAY on their laptop with the accompaniment of a few light bulbs? The cries of THANK YOU THANK YOU from certain members of the audience were frankly sickening, not least because there WAS some very obvious distortion on the bass. Have these people never heard of a sound check?

I saw Basinski in 2004 - he played the Instal festival which was a major gathering for the experimental types in Glasgow for the first half of the 00's. In those days, he still had his reel-to-reel machines and there was something oddly absorbing about watching him fishing through the box, pulling out a string of tape, threading it in and fading it up - it was as if he didn't know exactly what was going to happen because he didn't seem to have any kind of system for the loops; they seemed to be coming out of an old ice-cream tub. Decent but not as much fun as Philip Jeck's ancient turntables and wonky 78's.

Well that does sound significantly more exciting than someone just standing there pressing a few buttons while wondering what’s for tea and whether they’ve got a poo brewing

Hmmm, it's OK but I wouldn't wave my pants in the air.

I know this is me getting all autistica aesthetica again but I’m not sure I could ever truly like or trust someone who spells zombie with a Y :gross:

What is there not to trust?

Speaking about sinister this remix by a huge favorite of mine MARTYN of the FEVER RAY track SEVEN is also quite delicious.

That first one is AWFUL @octophone:tongueout: WAY too noisy AND 10 minutes long. The other one is more digestible. Like a more raw version of the stuff on his "Concrete Desert" album. It also very much reminds me of this trippy track from we:

Although no guitars in this one.

Ooo jolly good. I was trying to do some work the other day and THIS track - also from the new album - came on :wired:

MARVELLOUS!

SO RUDE

Hope it’s absolutely dreadful and he calls you bad names on Twitter :disco:

Have a slight PEEVE that Kelly Moran's new EP has not yet been taken off "pre-order" status on Bandcamp. This happens a lot - if you don't do it manually during the day, Bandcamp do it for you but at the very END of the day, not the beginning. And on American time as well.

So I'm listening to SOPHIE instead. Eases the pain.

The GOOD news is that Burial's "Pre Dawn" finally grew on me. WHAT a track. So HIGH ENERGY. He's still got it afterall.:disco:

Just sounds like a lot of silly noise to me :tongueout:

In fact I don’t think I’ve ever even bothered downloading it. I have incidentally given up on the notion of ever getting a third album. There’s optimism and there’s delusion and I so often confuse the two :(

@octophone, are you aware of the new UnicaZürn album?

I was rather pissed off about unearthing details of the album launch event a DAY after it had happened. Will have to send a pair of soiled panties to Herr Thrower in the hope that he has a taste for that sort of stench and get GUEST LIST for future events :horny:

Nope, @Zu-Klara , wasn't aware of this - good grief, it's actually "available" as well, rather than being an edition of 13 on hand-pressed, cum-infused vinyl with a bonus etching of Clive Barker's scrotum on the b-side. To be investigated when I get home from work today.

I was quite obsessed with Plaid in my stoner years and was wondering whether to get the new album or not, but naturally a review mentioning “slippery time signatures” instantly sold it :weed:

Also, I’m impressed yet again with how quickly Juno deliver the goods. I ordered the CD at about 17:00 yesterday and it arrived TODAY! :disco:

"Vaporwave" is code for "put me in the stocks and pelt me with dead gerbils". So WTAF is "waporwave"?
