AS5 E07: Stand-Up Smackdown

I wonder if Shea thinks Cracker deserves the win then, since she has the most wins, she never seems to stop talking about the trauma of not winning (on All Stars where nobody has won), that’s the thing that’s making me go off her at the moment.

As much as they are poking her, that doesn't sit well with me, either. They have all lost before. One of them twice. It being worse somehow for Shea just comes off as entitlement, or them never really deserving it in the first place.

It does show how Sasha Velour's petals really were the most effective stunt ever, I suppose.

The main thing that's annoyed me about Shea's attitude has been her reaction to Alexis having the temerity to vote for her in a week when she got the worst critiques. That really did reek of entitlement.

Here's how the popularity is looking going by RTs and likes the official Drag Race social accounts

Twitter
15.7k Shea
8.8k Jujubee
4k Miz Cracker

Instagram
114k Shea
98.7k Jujubee
63.7k Miz Cracker

This the increase of followers they have had since the AS5 cast announcement

317k Shea Coulee (+35.6%)
244k Jujubee (+40.5%)
90k Miz Cracker (+8.9%)

I feel a bit like the weight of expectation has been weighing on Shea a bit through this season - similar to Alaska in AS2. It's why we've had some ambitious but ultimately messy Shea runways and overthought challenges. Never mind the narrative of Ms Cracker being in her head, Shea is probably the real culprit :D

Anyway, Shea to win, and she would be an iconic winner for the franchise. Cracker has basically ALREADY WON the prize money, and Jujubee can be forever the Susan Lucci of Drag Race (and eventually brought back for a fourth time :D)

Which has been what all the last couple of episodes been about and is making me root less for Shea, especially when she hasn’t really been bringing it as much as they all say she has. It’s not her fault, of course, and I still think she should win, but I’m really getting tired of all the rather undeserved praise she’s getting from the other queens on all the sideshows (Pit Stop, Fashion Photo Ruview, Race Chasers...) and even more annoying that the remaining queens don’t even think they should vote her out.

In terms of % increase in followers, I think Cracker has the lowest fairly easily. Obviously her figure would be hampered by having the most followers in the first place, but Shea wasn't THAT far behind, and she has soared.

Cracker and Juju were the best in the challenge this week by far.

I’d like Juju to win. I think Shea will win. And although Cracker has won the most challenges, I’d be more surprised if she took the crown over the other two.

Jujubee really should've won.

Kennedy was obviously instructed to lose because she did absolutely nothing.

I can't believe we're facing the possibility of a Cracker win :zombie:

Sadly it does all come across like Shea believes she's the first person ever not to have won something and that she was the deserved S9 winner, cruelly bested by Sasha I in an upset for the ages. I remember in S9 I stopped looking her towards the end because she was coming across as entitled and the same thing is happening here.

The only winner I'd really be happy with now is Juju but that's not going to happen. I feel there's a real possibility it could be Cracker although more likely Shea.

It does feel like there has been a turn of the tide in the way there was with Alaska in AS2, but I still think Shea is rather undesputedly the best.

The outfit this week wasn't amazing, but in the past when she's been critiqued it's seemed really deliberate as a means of making things seem less obvious and predetermined. Ross discrediting her episode 3 outfit and her placing bottom at all that episode was an eye roller.

I haven’t seen this yet because I just can’t face it, so I’ve made a prediction game before watching to make it more bearable. I predict:

1. Discussion about Alexis leaving and bold statements from them all in their confessionals about going for the crown. Blair is given a particularly empowered moment to make her elimination later seem unexpected.

2. Mini task where they all have to wear a diaper and act like babies, while RuPaul dies laughing. product placement moment: “DiaperQueens is the newest must-have for queens with IBS”

3. Miz Cracker wins the mini challenge for the purposes of a villain edit.

4. Main challenge is announced. They practice in front of Jane Krakowski and are all shown bombing in some way, because of course they should have fully-realised stand-up routines written within 2 hours because that’s entirely normal.

5. Ru does a walkaround to talk about people’s parents and the voices inside their heads. At least one will cry.

6. Main stage challenge - Blair gets the rattlesnake edit, everyone else gets the laughter edit, although maybe one of them gets a few glares from Michelle to signal that they too are in danger

7. The winner is announced and the next 20 minutes are manufactured debate about how really anyone could be going even though Blair is going

8. Blair goes home

let’s see how many marks out of 8 I can get! :disco:

:D!!!!

The Blair rattlesnake edit was RIDICULOUS :D the complete silence, the exaggerated page turning sound effects, the looks from the judges... It was all already ridiculous before she even started when they tried so HARD to sell us Blair as the AS5 killer comedy queen!

THIS CHALLENGE IS SO UP YOUR ALLEY, YOU’VE HAD THE JUDGES IN STITCHES EVERY WEEK! :eyes:

Just saw a video someone posted on Facebook. Two Shea jokes, a Peppermint one and a Sasha Velour one.

Do you have a link to this? I'd quite like to see it.

It does make me think back to the rumours that TKB had her routine written for her. Does anyone know more on this? I wish I could be up on the latest reddit, but I'm old and tired. Good old crazy Cocoa's also seemed a little too good.

They once talked about it on Race Chaser, it sounded like it was a fairly common thing that queens have the reads/stand up routines written for them

I think it was in the memes and reactions group, but there will be too much to plough through now, if it is that one.

The four jokes they showed were clearly copies. There were also a couple of set ups from Alaska and Ivy Winters which were spookily similar as well.

This isn't a dig at Cracker but I'm FUMING Juju didn't win that. Yes the first thirty seconds were iffy, but after that it was gag after gag and I'm sure she got more laughs than the rest combined.

Cracker was polished but as expected she took her sweet time linking the jokes, of which only a couple were chuckle worthy compared to about fifteen of Juju's. She was probably second (although Shea was fine) but that was Juju's for the taking :(

Despite having the fewest wins I swear Juju has been robbed about THREE TIMES now. And on track record she has been consistently brilliant, oh god please just make her the shock winner now please.

I suppose a Cracker leading the pack on wins scenario makes more exciting viewing than the three going in equal, especially as everyone involved must know Shea is the expected chosen one, so to go in with a weaker score card makes it far less certain...even though it still feels entirely certain.

I assume some of this entitlement comes from having a massive FOUR WINS in her season and still not taking the crown which must be rare/unheard of. But still, you did REALLY FUCKING WELL in a strong Drag Race season, and now you get to reach another final, hardly some tear jerking tragedy. Her stock is super high, she's well loved, and it's not like the list of winners across both formats is necessarily the very very best...just enjoy your success love!

In fact given she has underwhelmed/over thought several tasks and runways this season, she should be fucking glad she's there at all. She's very very good and I'll take her as winner especially after the last two Allstars seasons, but runaway leader she ain't.

I get the Alaska comparison but for me Alaska really WAS incredible in her season, far more than Shea, and also had an amazing nemesis nipping at her heels in Katya. On balance Shea is great but has arguably disappointed.

Cracker's talking heads are going to be extraordinary regardless of the result. I hope Aquaria is ready to re-enact Cracker's joyful reaction when she won.

omg they’ve just announced what looks like a Vegas-based Real Housewives style Drag Race show :D I SWEAR I floated this idea a few weeks ago on here :eyes:

Cast:
Vanjie
Naomi Smalls
Asia O’Hara
Kameron Michaels :manson:
Yvie Oddly
Derrick Barry :disco::disco::disco::disco:

I’m expecting Derrick and his scraggy boyfriends to steal the show. Hoping and praying for cameos from SHANNEL :disco:, India Ferrah, Alexis Mateo and of course COCO MONTRESE :disco:

I think the meltdowns will be funnier if Cracker wins

Not least my own

Oh as much as I'd hate it the carnage would be delicious. And as much as it would be ridiculous (except for the fact she has 3 wins so, on dull facts alone, not ridiculous at all) I think I'd still find it more acceptable than the AS3 outcome for starters.

i think it’s closer to the Work the World show they do on WoW Presents

I haven't gone into it, but I see the winner is revealed in the episode 8 thread. How did the result leak??
The winner isn't revealed in the thread, it was a joke taken seriously :(

But the supposed result is out. I assume someone who works in TV has seen the version of the finale that's going to air

Oh right :D

I do hope I don't see it, it does ruin it knowing in advance

The spoiler bit in the thread exclusively reveals the winner to be Derrick "n-nobody was killed?" Barry

And yeah, I had the result spoiled but admittedly I had gone to reddit.com/r/spoileddragrace

Apparently Tyra Sanchez leaked it, having supposedly seen the final show.
