Reveal next week

Although it could be yet another country on the chopping block for the future if their fascist party (who won the most recent election) manages to form a government, as their manifesto specifically mentions defunding ORF and withdrawal from the "woke Song Contest" :ToneNervous:

Feels like the kind of thing that might fall by the wayside in coalition negotiations.

Anyway, just as importantly - Halo > Who The Hell Is Edgar > We Will Rave is one of the best 1-2-3 punches in contest history. I'll be stunned if they manage to follow up with a fourth that does it justice, but CROSSING MY CUNT nonetheless

Officially confirmed tomorrow morning, but it seems like it's this guy who was randomly on The Voice UK

So sailing under the radar depsite the fuss around Australia and the Netherlands, Austria have crept up to fourth or fifth in the odds. Has there been a leak or what else has happened?

I think with most countries’ reveals there have been reasons they won’t win, so it has gradually been leapfrogging them.

You're probably right; I guess there must be some buzz around JJ. The poor UK still languishes mid-table and Georgia (who I don't think have announced a thing) are even further back.

Wish the gearchange happened a bit earlier in the song but that'll do very well if he can pull it off live.

This is really great! Opera always stands out and the unexpected final transition only adds to it.

I’m finding it curiously unmemorable for something so big. Like, I can remember what happens in it but the actual melody keeps escaping me when I don’t have it on.

So we need another FEM TWINK from a Central European nation squealing at the top of his voice?

This was feeling like the winner last night when I listened through them all. The juries are going to be sopping at the monge for this, and if they nail the staging (which it feels like they probably will) top 5 with the public isn't out of the question and should probably be enough.

I'd like it a lot more if it was maybe 20% less shrill. It's actually quite a nice tune, but he just takes his voice to such an unpleasant place in the leap from verse to chorus.

I'm still a little sceptical on the jury vote TBH. Remember one of their criteria is 'is it a hit?' - not that The Code ended up having a huge life outside the contest, but it did sound a lot more contemporary than this does.

To give an obvious comparison, I much preferred Tout L'Univers, which felt more organic, where this feels more specifically hammed up. "Ooh juries like it when you go up high, let's do that". I do like the idea of adding donk to it though, and that's by far the best part.

I do agree I could definitely see this winning.

Tout L'Univers was in a high register, but i don't feel like it felt like it deployed Gjon's vocals in a gimmicky way, in the way that this does. It just felt like a very professional ballad by a guy with quite a high voice, whereas this is actively quite bizarre and jarring.

What is it with Mitteleuropa sending a high-pitched baby gay(/they)?

'Tout l'Univers' was the only good one though.

I think it's fabulous and I wouldn't mind it winning :disco:
Also I don't think it's nowhere as gimmicky as "The Code" was.

I love the song and am hoping the staging elevates it even more. They're using Sergio Jaen who was behind the Doomsday Blue staging last year.

Apparently the performance features “something that hasn’t really been done before camera-wise", but we've all heard that sort of hyperbole before only for them to be talking about a surprise fade to black or something.
