If it is as good as most people are saying, isn't that reason enough for it to exist? Most musical biopics - hell most films in general these days - don't even rise to that level. I'd rather watch this than yet another phoned in, $350m Marvel movie that feels like it was written by ChatGPT.

Yes the budget is quite silly and it does now look like it will lose a big chunk of money, but if he managed to find enough people rich/foolish enough to bankroll it, more power to him!

True on the second point. I think I’m just biased because I don’t like his music. Then again, I actually warmed to Take That’s music over the years, but Greatest Days (which wasn’t even about them) was so bad it made me hate them again.

I think CANDY is my favourite, but I am quite partial to the Kylie and Nicole collabs as well.

'Angels' is quite overplayed, but it still got me in the movie when it was used alongside the funeral of his Nan
 
For me I quite like Robbie and a lot of his songs but I can’t get past the monkey and I think that’s the point people in general are ‘wtf is this’ stuck on

Apparently it held up pretty well, only dropping 26% compared to the standard 40-50% for a second week release. But yeah, it's probably going to top out below £10m unless it has excellent longevity. Which would be a solid little hit if they'd made it on a reasonable budget, but obviously not when they need to make back about 20 times that worldwide to break even. :D
 
The production company logos at the start seemed to be Chinese - is he big in China or did he manage to convince some billionaire by showing off his Brit awards?

If anything ever could be described as “mid”, it’s the vast majority of RW ballads. Feel and Supreme are in there with the most meh of all.

Feel is fabulous and Rock DJ is a classic. She's the One gorgeous. he can have Kids and Angels too I guess. and Somethin' Stupid with Nicole.

I'm going to Apple Music a Robbie Williams Essentials playlist this afternoon for other reason than to discover if there is much there I like. I bought the first two albums, but haven't played either since 2001, and Rudebox was the best album he ever did for me- still give that the occasional spin.

I'm also ASTONISHED that his first five solo albums all sold over 2 million in the UK and the follow up to that was a comedown...at 1.6! I mean, I probably KNEW that, but what an amazing run he had.

OFF THE TOP OF MY HAIRDO:

3. She's Madonna
4. Lovelight
5. Kids

I'm struggling beyond that, really.

That list is affected by things I never need to hear again, though- I mean, I realise Angels and Let Me Entertain You are both great records and all that, but NAH.
 
I think I own his first four or five albums. I'm not sure because I haven't properly looked at my CDs for about a decade. Or played any of his for probably two.
 
I think I agree 100% with Sheena's top 5

Robbie these days is pretty inoffensive, but there's definitely some lingering "PTSD" from when he was absolutely forced down this nation's throats for a good 5 years despite very little musical talent of his own. Bloody inescapable, and the media very much lauded him as the British Jesus.
 
She's The One is probably my favourite (but not this soundtrack version) and I like Angels, Feel, and Candy (the only one I remember being around for haha) :laugh:
Road to Mandalay is anothe Robbie song I only discovered last year; I do like both (or all 3) versions of. 😊🎶

I remember the media glee surrounding the "failure" of Rudebox being appalling. Hints at his mental health being a problem/ drug issues etc., simply because he'd gone off piste.

Distinctly remember the headlines about the amount of copies of Rudebox that had been overprinted and were sent to China to be ground up into material to make pavements :D
 
I'm actually REALLY enjoying this run through the HITZ. Supreme is really good.

I had to skip Millennium, though.
 
Considering all the directions he could have gone down, it's quietly miraculous he appears to have landed on nothing more offensive than 'LA dweller who uses too much therapy speak'.

Oh they did very much turn table the second he stopped doing tasteful Daily Mail MUM ANTHEMS

Rudebox the album was massively let down and undermined by the title track. Maybe "She's Madonna" would have fared better, she was on a career peak at the time.
