Bulgaria 2016: Poli Genova - If Love Was a Crime

Surely that would be against the rules? I'd imagine it has to be the same as the presentation people voted for...?

Sounds a bit too harsh though.

Actually I just remembered that Deen had a slightly different outfit in the finale in 2004.

You can change your outfit if it doesn't fundamentally alter the performance. Donny Montell looks like he's planning on wearing a different shirt, for example.

Unfortunately due to the light show, Poli won't have much room for maneuvre. But from what I've heard the Bulgarian team are very happy with how it looks anyway.

This was the revelation of the second semi for me. I found it very MEH until the performance.

ok, so at this point i'm totally obsessed with this song. if it were in the hands of sweden or russia this would be the song to beat.

i wish it were handled better from the get go. good video, gay marriage storyline, amazing staging. can you imagine???

So yes this is my favourite song by a mile and my god Poli is such a great little popstar, but yes the staging is lacking something.

Yes they don't have much of a budget but that's no excuse. It feels like all the elements are there but not realised well enough. If the dancers on the screens stood out more, and the backing singers came out sooner also with light-up bits in their costumes it would improve this so much.

It's ALMOST in X Factor guest performance territory but not quite. I'm hoping people appreciate the song enough for it to get a good placing though.

This song is probably my favourite. Obvs Australia and Russia clinch it with realised performances, but this is a great little pop song. If Zara Larsson sung it would be a top 10 hit.

If only she could use the conditional tense correctly. Come on, even bloody Frans can get it right.

 Again, Frans is a native speaker.

I'm more annoyed at Poland. The EBU should have corrected their spelling.

She does look like she's genuinely enjoying it and this somehow compensates the rest of the staging. My favourite too.

Same here. She's so infectious and I love how the song barely dilly dallies around with a verse. Fingers crossed it can score well tonight.

yas. this was everything. we went mad for it and what a result for good old bulgaria. and not a single fucking 12 either

yaaaaaaaaas!

So pleased that this finished so high. I feared it might get lost in the rush.

did you light your snatch up for the final chorus? i know i would have.

During the show I feared that Spain may have stolen some of her votes. Evidently not.

This was my winner last night. She performed it PERFECTLY and it's such a tune. I think the fact that I got on board with it a lot later is partly why I love it so much now - I didn't overplay it until about a week ago when suddenly I went WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS EPIC FABULOUSNESS?

The ensemble was fucking hideous! It was like a bad Gaga Halloween outfit from 09.

I had the same with Australia. I totally overplayed Heartbeat for example.

now the euphoria is subsiding i keep think what might have been if they'd put a little more effort into the whole thing.

i also notice this did worse in the semi than in the final. which is strange. i thought it'd get lost but then poli worked that light switch everytime a camera was on sight. i kept thinking of her during the voting, sitting there, finger on the trigger, waiting desperately to pump up the watts for a 12.

The outfit was bad. And the presentation could have been so much more. I can only imagine how :disco: it could have been in the right hands.

One of my highlights of last night's post-show party at the Euroclub was a clearly legless Poli sitting very precariously on the balcony dancing to Heroes with her back to the gays below, who were all (myself included) legitimately terrified she was going to fall, while her friends/minders grabbed her legs and repeatedly tried to coax her down. She was a complete and utter state. What a woman. I hope she lived through the night.

Sounds like she was channelling you!

:D :disco: :disco: :disco:

I think this is now my favourite of the year. What an utterly fucking incredible pop song.

I sort of get what you're saying about the staging, but I thought it worked for the song to be honest and she sold it perfectly.

The runaway winner for me this year, it's so tireless, loud and quite pretty. I've never felt so connected to a lesbian since Ani Difranco helped me get through my teenage angst, and she wasn't even a real one in the end.
