Captain America: Brave New World

Saw this, very blokey and quite dull

New Falcon is RATHER HANDSOME though

Yeah we went the other week with Ron Jr, it was just generic action, Ron Jr said it seemed to setting something up but I really have stopped caring about this sort of thing.

This felt like going through the motions - packed with hollow action and off boil attempts at bants.

Anthony Mackie in this non-starter bland role is not a lead you can give a shit about. And for me Harrison Ford's character, as well as being meh, really underlined the feeling that this is a franchise trying to hark back to former glories that aren't there anymore. New Falcon is fit at least, but that's all I remember of him a week after watching.

Right now the MCU feels like a brilliant pop culture moment that's very much ended. I'm interested to see if the upcoming Avengers films can put some spark back into it, or if they'll just feel like Avengers in name only. I could get excited about seeing Thor / Spider-Man again, and if the new Fantastic Four succeeds then I can see them being a welcome shot in the arm for the franchise, so I'm not ruling it out.

I thought it was good. Actually rated it the best MCU film since Spider-Man: No Way Home. The vast majority of the ones in between have been utter rubbish.

He sounds like a wanker, and that "You're the man, you're in charge and must look after the little ladies" approach is not for today thanks, Trad Wife Ellie

So what do you think it means?
Unless there’s any future indication that any of his sons are queer, he likely has no experience of having to think about that. If he’s got a 15 year old straight son, he sees his job as teaching him to be respectful to women and staying off of any toxic traits he’d likely pick up online. I don’t think it’s that deep.

I'm specifically asking about the statement I quoted. Who are "they" and how have they "killed masculinity"?

He's quite literally saying it's a bad thing for a boy to have feminine traits. How you don't see that as anti-queer - and toxic in itself - is beyond me.

I genuinely got that “they” meant the Andrew Tates of the world.

OK, fair enough. It didn’t jump out to me like that. Also when he’s talking about being a protector, this is a very American thing as they’re always ranting on about home invasions like it’s common. It’s something that seems to be ingrained in them for some reason.

I actually do think we need to have better, less judgemental conversations about masculinity, and accept that most people are not as nuanced in their thinking as we might consider ourselves to be.

There’s some definite red flags in what Mackie is saying there, but it’s not like he’s Andrew Tate.

That wasn't a dig at you specifically! I just feel the constant pile-ons the internet loves to have these days are probably doing more harm than good.

Well I think publicly expressed harmful viewpoints should be challenged and more people should do it :WellThereWeAre:
