Cunk on Britain

Should I start watching this series?

let the imperialists have something to themselves for once

(pssst I'm watching it too, it's on youtube. I like how her dialect makes 'hearsay' sound like 'hairsay')

I am enjoying it, and will watch to the end, but the jokes become more and more predictable and stayed the longer the series goes on. I would like to see more of the interviews and less of the links now because often it’s the response of the interviewees that gets the biggest laughs.

On the contrary, the interviewees are the least funny thing about it. I could listen to Philomena Cunk narrate history for DAYS. There's so much wonderful/ludicrous wordplay at EVERY TURN.

"The only thing to eat was bread. It was a particularly challenging time for the gluten intolerant. But luckily no-one was yet middle-class, so they just put up with it."

I mean yes. I get the jokes Jark... My point is I can predict all the jokes now, because they follow a very similar pattern. Like I said, I still enjoy it, but the flexibility of the interviews makes them more fun to me.

It is all quite predictable, but it doesn't make it less funny for me. And I agree that the interviews are the less funny part of the show.

Interesting. Definitely the highlights for me have been the interview: 'What's the most political thing that's ever happened?' (his reaction and her reaction to that, more than the question itself), 'King Arthur came a lot' and 'You said Things Can Only Get Better, so why should we trust anything you ever say now?' all stand out for me.

SOME of the interviews are funny, but the best bits are the scripted bits. Oh and her face. The show would be nothing without her face.

I even love watching the same introduction every week. Length and width gets me every time, I'm not entirely sure why.

I like the bit when she's waving from the train. Or checking her phone.

And disappears behind the tree as soon as the camera goes to her. :D It's almost Acorn Antiques-esque.

I still thought “Breadth and width” would have been a funnier joke...

I was a bit taken aback by Cunk as Thatcher.

'Diana's death couldn't have come at a worse time for a nation that had just got really into being judgmental about her sex life. The sense of loss was SHOCKING.' :D

New book "Cunk On Everything: The Encyclopedia Philomena" being released for Christmas. That'll certainly do as a Yankee Candle alternative.

For some reason the book is only £3.60 on Amazon right now.

DON'T FORGET THE MOOPY LINK

Did anyone watch Cunk & Other Humans, either oddly stripped across last week in five minute chunks or the more convenient catch up? Enjoyable as ever but I'm not sure if the power of Cunk is diminished slightly by every other role I see her in.

I watched the first three and they barely raised a titter. I was very disappointed.

Watching now.

If someone shouted this out loud, would it have been the first audiobook?

No.

Oh this show is such a tonic. Not watched the new ones yet but from the last lot I remember thinking I wish she'd be even less subtle and even more ridiculous, but either way it's a joy

I've just watched the first three and it's top notch.

I can never watch a full series at a time, it requires so much attention. Plus my face hurts.
