Enya quotes & quips (1 Viewer)

Here's the original version of that interview on my Google drive
Nice, clearer too, where did you find the full version? :)
I know there are the YouTube clips, and Spotify, but they seem to skip out things. Now I know that the Christmas song she was approving of was Fairytale of New York :D

Also do you have the Baktabak interview (1990)? It used to be on YouTube, I heard it a while ago

From the one you shared, a relatable quote 😅

(Interviewer asks if Enya has got any new melodies written down)
"None whatsoever." ~Enya, 1989

Same interview as above, so many good, insightful quotes. 🌟
"I was the one that sat in learning, when everybody was playing outside. So what boarding school did for me was that every step I took I really sort of thought about it and I thought about me as a person. Even now, I don’t think in haste: ‘Oh that sounds great let’s go for it’. I always think, ‘Are you happy with this now, this is a big change’. And everything I’ve done I’ve been really happy with." ~Enya, 2016

Awarding and performance (I think Bianca is in the blue dress) if only this was HD

An advance reminder of this amusing occasion:

~ Enya, her 28th birthday in 1989 ☕🎉

I thought I'd missed one from yesterday:
20th May 1989 entry Enya.jpg

~Enya, 1989 😅✈️🤷🏻🧳

I suppose she took June 1989 off then, doing all sorts and nothing. :D

That may seem so :eyes: these Enya things have become somewhat of a hobby, but I am doing all this between typing up university assignments/essays in science. 📝🔬🧪
A year and a week later, it's the same...! 💻📝
I don't believe in my assignments the same way Enya's like with her music though. 😅

Glad that Enya didn't become the piano teacher 😅
Enya 2016 driven to succeed quote.jpg

😌💗🎶

"...when you do something that you really believe in and really love there is a really big driving force. You don’t feel the cold. You’re not hungry. You’re really driven towards [in Enya's case] writing an album." ~ Enya, 2016

'I've actually kept a diary since... I think it was 1987. I had one [...] for the five years I was at boarding school. [...] It's something that [...] I don't know why one keeps a diary, but once you get into the habit of writing in a diary, it's really hard to break that habit. [...] It makes for good reading, on a very wet, cold, windy day, to go back, and you know, when you think "what was I doing five years today?" [...] It's amazing, because it takes you back to that day, and you relive that day, it's incredible.' ~ Enya, 1997
📖🪄

How fitting for the weather ☺️🌧

I couldn't say the habit thing is true - I wish that I was able to keep a diary for that long..! 😅

I did keep a diary properly from 2014-2019 📖 covering my highschool years, fairly boring 😅 and on and off since. The 2019 one was quite detailed, and I began to like predicting things in my life around then. I did write a lot for the first couple of months this year, but my diary writing is far less concise, and I end up writing tiny. Doodling helps to fills the pages too. 🎨 Before I could simply put "school, lunch, back home, watched a film" and remember, but I seem to forget the last few years. 😅 I think since I got a phone (in 2020) taking photos and doing voice recordings have become a far better journal than my writing. :)💡

A little over five years ago:

(I have come to the conclusion that Enya was not just tipsy, this may have been a medication reaction with alcohol :( )
The interview clip from 1997 (I only just watched it in full a few days ago - a fun variety of topics too 😊)

I love that this interview exists 🤗💕
"I travel about twice a year to Sydney," says Enya. "It's a home from home and I feel I know it really well. It's such a great city. I love walking around the Opera House and Botanical Gardens." ~ Enya, 2000

I tried to see if there was a copy of the newspaper online..
Oh well ☺️
Haha don't dream it's over (no results found).jpg

I like their humour :D and this song too.
😊🎶

From this clip: I like how Enya begins:
'We get a lot of rain within Ireland and er, I notice how different the people are when it's "a day without rain"'
:D 🌧
'A lot of people sort of say "we don't know much about Enya" but, if you listen to the albums, you'll actually realise you know a lot - about me, you know a lot more about me than you realise'
~Enya, 2001
😊💭✨🎶

So many throughout this wonderful interview:
🤗 💝
Edit: particularly from here:

'This is Machaire Gathlán – to translate that, it would have meant, "the sheltered plain" [...] in the summertime, we used to come down here early in the morning and spend all day here, the family [...] just exploring all around here, it was just great fun' ~ Enya, 1989

The one for today!

"When I was younger, I was studying music and there was a time I wanted to obtain a degree in music. But, I received a phone call from Nicky Ryan and he asked me to provide vocals and play the piano and keyboards for Clannad and my life changed then. And then I thought I wouldn't have any chance of getting a degree in music but today I am getting it. So, I am very very happy!" ♡ ~Enya, 2007
Credit to the person who uploaded that clip for sharing these :)
"Nuair a bhí mé níos óige, bhí mé ag staidéar ceol agus bhí am amháin agus bhí mé ag iarraidh céim a fháil in sa cheol. Ach, fuair mé guthán ó Nicky Ryan, chuir sé ceist orm glór agus bualadh pianó agus keyboard le Clannad, agus d'athraigh mo shaol ansin. Agus shíl mé ansin nach
mbeadh seans ar bith agam céim a fháil in sa cheol ach inniu tá mé á fháil. So, tá mé iontach iontach sásta.

"My music is emotional, NOT sexy." ~ Enya, 1989
Screenshot 1

The Daily▪︎Mail (on Sunday) were pushing for even more info for sure, even the title of this article :gross:
Enya did plenty to keep people away, reasonably, to focus on her music. 🎼
She still seems more socially inclined than I am, haha – wait until July and another interview where she says that she "went out with different ones/several" as a student.
With anyone in real life, I've always answered these sort of questions (including being asked to go out) easily with a no. I currently have nil to go into regarding romantic relationships; absolutely fine with that. :-)

I like how she remembered the older interview, and gave it a positive, slightly humourous take:
Screenshot 2

Another Sunday paper, Sunday Tribune in Ireland, this.
It's a bit annoying with the questions at the beginning of paragraphs...
Even if her 'therefore' point kind of needed the last sentence about admiration/attraction to relate back to herself, Enya's answers seem honest, accepting of bigger names in the music industry, and quite clear.

About the quote below, I think it varies with the song: the energy of the arrangement, harmonies, and her vocals a lot of the time. ♡
Of course, depends on who's listening, and what turned off means here (repelled by, bored by or put to sleep by the music?) 😅
I've never fallen asleep to Enya's music, nor felt turned on by it haha, more attuned to it. :) 🎶
"I remember being told that the music is quite sexy. I think it's dependent on the individual. What would turn on someone could easily turn off someone else." ~ Enya, 1991

The whole honorary doctorate speech 🌟 🤗 (Enya starts speaking around 5:35) and more like

😊🎓I might even try for Ulster Uni for graduate medicine in 2025...! ☆

Also here as audio download :)

Another quote which I quite liked from Enya; also an honorary woman in STEM ;)
"Embracing innovation helps to produce something unique and rewarding. It is your contribution to the world." ☆

Aw, this is the final one from Enya's "Around The World in 300 Days" recount..!
Enya 10th July 1989

Hooray Enya! :disco: 🎶⛵
I suppose, even if she's busy with the music, Enya calls her sisters for their birthdays; Brídín would've been 21. 🎉
Also I wonder if they (Enya, Nicky or Roma) ever have physically travelled to Venezuela, or any location mentioned in Orinoco Flow (besides Ebudæ/Scotland and Ebony Isle in Kent. :D)
I imagine Bali, in Indonesia 🏝

Translated as:
Q85 Have you ever overcome a hardship and felt that you have grown?

"Ten years ago [27 years ago] I was in a car accident with a drunk driver in Dublin and got an injury on my forehead that required about 15 stitches. It took a lot of work to get my body back to singing. It was traumatic and shocking, but as a result I became more aware of my health care and stronger as a person." ❤️‍🩹😌
~Enya, 2007

"I don't sit around wondering if I'm missing out on life because I can think of nothing I would rather do than compose and play music. Really. I really do love it.
I do sometimes go out with friends in the evening and I enjoy that, but I prefer being alone in the studio."
~Enya, 1989
Edit: This is the archived Daily Mail article the quote is from, title of which Enya disagrees with.

Madame's life must be MISERABLE if all she wants to do is compose music, given she seemingly only gets to do so once every 10 years

New album please lazybones!

I don't believe women should be in men's jobs. I'd rather my fanny fell out, than see a lady doctor. I don't support other women because I think they're feeble in the mind and body. They should know their place, keep their mouths shut and stay out of what they don't understand.
- Enya, 2024

After watching the hellish wokefest that was the Olympics opening ceremony, I'm personally going to dump so much human waste into the Seine to flood those French perverts, with cack, piss and tammies. See how they like my lifestyle being shoved down their throats.
- Enya, 2024

💋💘🔪🗼

I like how she says tammies, instead of tampons. Although we all know she dried up in the 90s. 🥰

I was obliged to rank my top 5 favourite songs by a bunch of online faggots. I only really like one, because it reminds me of shaving my pussy and fartbox. It's "Gillette, the Best a Man Can Get". It's a sultry banger and I love fingering my nice smooth cunt when I hear it.

- Enya, 2013 🤗🩷🚩

It's not my favourite, but it's nice that she keeps her holes tidy and ready for a nice quick fuck 🤗

When asked in this interview
You said that music was the most important thing for you, you stayed single and dedicated your life to art. Would a more ordinary life prevent you from creating music?
Enya responded:
"I am a very independent woman and have pondered each step in my life. I decided to commit my time to music and have no regrets. I have done what is right for me."
~ Enya, 2016
:enya:
🌟

Enya looked at her castle and remembered that Oprah Winfrey quote
Maybe she remembered her quote here about Oprah and herself:
“The media put tags on people. With Oprah Winfrey, it’s the weight issue. What is the spin they have on me? ‘Oh, she’s a recluse.'” ~Enya, 2015
Also in this, it was suggested that Enya spoke on Oprah's show in the 80s (yet to see any footage) and Enya describes being thought of as crazy for liking silence:
“The reaction was like, ‘Whoa, strange person here!’ Now people know what it’s about" ~ Enya, 2015
:D

The Belgian and German interviews Enya has often seemed very honest and open (savage even) :D
I think that applies more for when she aimed to be more assertive at that time in her career: at the beginning with Watermark (late 80s) and for Amarantine (2005-06) after the stalking incidents. 💭
this 1988 interview has plenty of savage Enya quotations to choose from 😅
Also this interview in Germany from 2005 I rediscovered yesterday has lots too. :)

Contrary to 'popular' (mislead) belief, I have never created a new Enya wiki page, forum, app, nor website. However, I do wish there was a newer active website or app with all these articles and more :disco:

Anyway, from the aforementioned article, this:
I have always been shy. In former times, I wasn’t happy with that, but today I accept it and live my life after it. And I dare to express something private like emotions in my music and make it visible for the public. I also like painting, but it’s difficult for me as it shows too much of myself. If it is included in a song, it’s less a problem for me.
~Enya, 2005

I really like how the beginning about shyness is phrased 🤗 and Enya about painting being too telling is quite intriguing. :disco:🖤🎨

A later related quote, same article (Spanish one) as my post here on 2nd August:
Interviewer: Painting is another of your passions. Will we see an exhibition of your work?
"[Painting]’s something very personal. I share my thoughts when composing music but I prefer painting to stay private, at least for a few years." ~Enya, 2016

A passage that I was reminded of from the haircuts poll thread:

From 'A Day in the life of Enya' fun read http://web.archive.org/web/20210613140601/http://www.enyabookofdays.com/articles/sm-25.htm

~Enya, 1992 💇🏻‍♀ ✨

I cannot relate to getting my hair cut regularly, nor clothes making sense with my hair. :D

I also revisited this interview discussion yesterday (just found it here) :D
29479[/ATTACH]

Enya ah I would sympathise with anyone having to work with me that closely haha
"I would, ah, I would sympathise with anyone having to work with me that closely [...] I'm a perfectionist and I can be difficult in the studio..."
~Enya, 1992 (and throughout her career)

I have no quotes to post, but I feel it should be said that I think about Enya saying "I'd rather my fanny fell out, than see a lady doctor" pretty much every single day, and I get the giggles every time

Thank you for passing it on, @AGinAg (39)

"I believe that I am a true Celt at heart, and any music I write, would be Celtic music, whether it be a pop song or a classical piece." ~ Enya, 1986

Also the song that she is singing there is Deireadh an Tuath (End of the Tribe)
(refers to Halloween/Shamhna) 😊
