Eurovision 2024: Malmö Arena

People always do a SHOCK HORROR about this, but it happens every fucking time.

I still don't understand why they've made ticket transfers possible. Last year they didn't and it stopped a lot (not all) of this nonsense.

Oh and apparently, lots of people saying all standing has been given to OGAE packages and only once they’re all sold will they release the few left to the second ticket sale. Ridiculous.

well I got on just through sheer luck

Got 4 tickets to the Thursday afternoon preview

There was the availability off 1x ticket for Friday evening but no point if it’s just solo

Glad my work training means I haven't been able to spend all day sat at a computer watching a slow moving queue this time.

That was the task for the boyfriend instead, he's managed to get us semi 1 live.

I get the impression though that the Eurovision experience is not really about the shows but rather the events around it, so I don’t mind so much that couldn’t get better tickets

I disagree slightly- there is nothing quite like the live shows- but also mainly agree as there is so much other stuff happening which is fun and they’ll do big fan screenings and things which are great atmosphere-wise.

As we have free accommodation, I am 99% certain I’ll still go whatever happens, but I am still holding out for tickets before I fully commit.

I don't really like live music so a nice sit down in a low-stakes atmosphere is just perfect for Suomi

I’m now debating which eurofans club tickets to get. They are running club nights in both Malmo and Copenhagen

I'm holding out for an announcement about the official Euroclub. EuroFansClub was shite last year and we were lumbered with a week's pass.

Thanks for that. I think I will get eurofans club for the final at least and can always resell (I think) and pray and hope for euro club.

So apparently, as I think I said earlier, there were zero standing packages available today because they've all been given exclusively to the fan clubs.

NICE OF THEM TO TELL US IN ADVANCE.

Fucking useless.

Yes this is true. UK got 400 standing packages and 16 seated packages. We had 1200 people applying. Everyone got offered something whether it was live, jury or family.

I think there were maybe 1500 standing packages in total for the whole of OGAE across the globe.

I only found out about this the other day in our committee WhatsApp chat. I think standing is gonna be jam packed so you’re probably better off in seats anyway. I got a seated package cos I can’t be arsed with all the standing around for five hours for the grand final.

Well I got FUCK ALL anyway- but then i was ballot 2 and picked live packages only.

Next year i guess.

Hopefully something will come up like last year. We’re still going to go anyway-I have really good friends in Malmö so have free accommodation so will just go for the atmosphere but really want to get me/ them in somehow.

Latest rumours: Gina Dirawi is rumoured to be involved in some way, most likely not as the main host.

Meanwhile Petra Mede's back hasn't got better, it will likely kill her chances of returning.

I would be very surprised if niether Måns nor Sanna would be announced as a host as they're the only experienced presenters who's relevant in an ESC context. However they might not be the most optimal as a pairing. SVT does tend to pair off these "straight man" singer/presenters with a more witty commedian/host.
  1. Petra Mede: Sck leave - back destroyed
  2. Måns: Would do it.
  3. Gina: Quit years ago, returned in 2023.
  4. Tone Sekelius: Tied down to TV3.
  5. Sanna: Actively campaigning for it.
  6. Finer: SVT seems to prefer Sanna.
  7. Wahlgren: Does Allsång på Skansen
  8. DJ Trexx: Would do it.
  9. David Hellenius: Tied down to ITV.
  10. Meltzer: At Kanal 5, but not as a presenter.
  11. Carina Berg: Does Melodifestivalen
  12. Anis Don Demina: Would do it.
  13. Per Andersson: Would do it.
  14. Lina Hedlund: Would do it.
  15. Henrik Dorsin: Would do it.
  16. Alexandra Pascalidou: Long shot.
  17. Malena Ernman: Long shot.
  18. Farah Abadi: Has a lot to do this spring

Shame about Petra. Don’t see why they need to have someone connected to ESC as one of the hosts though. I’d imagine Måns will do a lot of coverage for the BBC if he isn’t chosen.

Rumours abound that (one of?) the reasons for the slow participant list is that Australia are really struggling - SBS is a niche channel anyway, and they have one of the highest costs to compete when the combined live plus delayed prime time showing this year didn’t even break 400,000 viewers. No Australian entry has charted since Zero Gravity made #95 either :bruised: the EBU have painted themselves into a corner a bit with making Australia such a part of the script every year, what happens if they themselves don’t have the money/interest to compete anymore (2023 already sort of hinted at this with the abrupt cancelling of the NF and the entry being fully sponsored by the Western Australian government)

I'm surprised they can't afford it - pound for pound it must be the cheapest television for the ratings possible for them to get, no?
I wouldn’t have thought it was particularly cheap for them though when you take into account the costs of actually putting an entry together and bringing a delegation to Europe.

37 countries to take part, with Romania still in discussions.

What a massive waste of time :D They really need to look at how much they’re charging smaller broadcasters, the numbers shouldn’t be this low after some of the most successful years ever.

Turns out they're planning a national final with 4 performers instead...

Back to it being obviously Raiven for Slovenia - they've gone internal after all, song is fully in Slovene and will be released in January. The artist will be announced on the 12th of December from the Opera Centre in Ljubljana - Raiven is a mezzo-soprano as well as a pop singer, so it seems fairly unsubtle :D

North Macedonia only budgeted about £20k to participate. I assume they were either looking for a sponsor to fund the entry, or were only going to put in a minimal level of effort (so not exactly a loss).
