Eurovision 2024: Semi-Final 1 (8pm BCT)

How’s that for that timeslot generally?

Interior Design Masters with Alan Carr which was in the same slot two weeks ago (so the last reported week) had 2.069m in the overnights, so down a little, assuming 'just under' is exactly that.

I'd say that only 400k down on last year has to be seen as a success regardless, considering there was far more hype then.

Possibly also worth pointing out that that semi audience last year went on to deliver a final audience of 10.24m (after 7 days, not overnights), making it the #5 show of the year.

The Benjamin Ingrosso medley was so weird. He did a respectable, but mediocre entry for Sweden several years ago (before taking his woeful televote into account!) and isn't particularly remembered by anyone outside of Sweden. It'd be like us last year dedicating a whole section to SURIE.

I can think of at least 10 Swedish Eurovision acts more on the gays' radar that would have felt more appropriate.

I bet there’s a record company attempt to launch him outside Sweden and some cash bunged somewhere, given that he’s fairly huge here at the moment.

But yes, it was rubbish. It was so embarrassing in the hall as he kept calling for crowd participation and everyone stood silent. Even the cheer at the end was “weak to non existent”.

Yeah but also SHUT UP BEING OFFENDED AT EVERYTHING. That post didn’t JUST come for Bambie Thug and it also went on about the power of a “beautiful song” (I use the term lightly here, you understand).

Stop being so perpetually UPSET.

There really is nothing like a political protest that you have to point out to people that you were making 24 hours after the fact. Real brave stuff there.

I really don’t see a watermelon.

It’s also really not for him to gatekeep what it is to be Jewish or to be Israeli of which, I assume, he is neither. Protest all you like at war and loss of life but in other ways that’s quite an ignorant post.

Yes - I find it strange reading what you have to say in response to the content of the quote - is that really the first thing that comes to your mind?
It’s not the first thing, but one of the more prominent ones. I find a lot of the wording that he has chosen to be careless at best, but I have no intention of getting into an argument about that. Of course, the horror of what is happening in Gaza can’t be understated but he makes a pretty good go of it by treating his political protest like he’s a teenager who has played a trick on the teacher. In my book, Saade was brave. This guy wasn’t.

What a KNOB. Seriously, if anything else screamed "yeah, thanks for coming" last night apart from Iceland it was Moldova. Obvious NQ
You could tell by her face she was severely pissed last night.
Sure her messages are far from a dignified reaction, but I also think she should be allowed to process her sadness and bitterness at the moment. It's barely been 24 hours since Europe voted to drop the curtain on the performance she invested her efforts and money in for the past few months...

I somehow ended up watching this last night, it was my first time hearing any of the songs. Usually I only half watch the final. I felt Ukraine seemed like by far the best song. Also liked the Irish entry and the Polish song, though I was listening to rather than watching her performance at this point. I’m glad Serbia and Portugal got through. Wasn’t keen on Croatia but that chugging riff is definitely a hook.

The Swedish track sounds like it will receive a royalties suit from Faithless. The UK entry was insipid, I was cringing a bit.

Rumours in full flow as usual at this point in the week, but one of the more believable ones is the Flemish commentator saying that they were told during a briefing that the top 10 in semi 1 was clear-cut over the 5 non-qualifiers (which was generally the case in last year's semis too, Latvia aside)
