10/10?

‘Story’ is the early front runner to my ears. It and the two singles move slightly away from what we are used to with Kylie which I think is drawing my attention most to them.

I’ve seen quite a few reviews calling out Vegas High as a weak point of the album. SERIOUSLY? It’s probably the best pure out and out pop banger she‘s done in years. The RUSH from it is like coming up on a pill!

Vegas High was a weak spot for me. I'll give it another go but it screamed generic in an album full of fresh takes.

stunning shoot for Aussie Vogue

fuck me the visualiser for Things We Do is UTTER TRANSCENDENT JOY!

HOT like a FEVER
CALL me a DREAMER
I'M A BELIEVER
IN TRUE LOOOOVE
❤️‍🔥

WHAT a middle 8. WHAT a song. WHAT A WOMAN! has she EVER been more visibly living her best life?! this is my absolute standout right now.

Finally figured out what this reminds me of - it's basically Kylie living her best Raffaella Carrà life. :disco:

The idea of Vegas High sounds cheesy hen party hell but the song itself is FABULOUS

I love it but I find myself gravitating heavily towards the more 80s leaning new tracks to my own surprise. Things We Do For Love in particular feels like an absolute stroke of genius encapsulating her 4 decade-long career while sounding so effortlessly 2023.

None of the album feels trendchasing, but it is so now and so Kylie.

The only thing about Things We Do For Love that kinda grates is that my brain keeps automatically launching into the Dancing On The Ceiling chorus throughout.

Day 2 and I think Story and You Still Get Me High are putting up a strong fight for my favourite.

I could probably build a case for all of them except Green Light, Vegas High, 10 Out Of 10, Love Train and Just Imagine being my favourite. A knockout at this stage would be horrific.

And yes, I'm now including Hands in my favourites.

I want a season of Drag Race with Tension only lip syncs.

In full:

Here we go. Based on this week's first sales flash, which includes most physical preorders, yesterday's purchases and downloads (but not streaming), Tension is set to become Kylie's ninth No1 studio album in the UK. It?s currently outselling the rest of the Top 40 combined having registered 31677 sales in 24 hours. On top of that, it is outperforming Disco, which took two days to reach the ~34k mark. Well done, everyone!

She is doing really well on Apple Music (comparatively) so we could still see a big target achieved.

I suspect it will be more frontloaded than Disco, but :disco::disco::disco: nevertheless.

And it will be particularly interesting to see how she does on streaming compared to Disco.

The only thing that irks me about Hands is the shared vocal at the start.

I'd be amazed if this doesn't settle in my top 3 Kylie albums. Right now I'm seriously wondering if it could end up my #1.

2 Story
3 Hold On To Now

7 Somebody To Love
8 You Still Get Me High

One More Time is really starting to click, too, so it's really wall-to-wall excellence until Hands which is still really solid while Green Light is .. it's cute that it's there. Not awful but not up there with the rest. Vegas High and 10/10 really benefit from coming after it.

But it's total jury bait.

Oh wait...

She’s arrived and I’ve posted on Insta vinyl

The vinyl is soooo pretty and the packaging is just 100

THIS ALBUM :disco:

I've barely listened to anything else the last two days. As things stand, dud free.

Hold On To Now's outro though... just glorious. They're not that alike but I kind of see Story as a companion - I suppose it is the emotional pull - in a similar way as the two big romantic eighties pop moments (and 'Call me a dreamer, I'm a BELIEVER IN TRUE LOVE' melts my dead heart).

Vegas High isn't the most well-rounded song, but it is such a sugar rush. It was the one that got stuck in my head first but that might be due to having heard the clip already from the Vegas launch video.

I like Hands but it is a strange one. It is almost like there was a feature that fell through or something. Justice for the featured session singer!

Yay for Love Train being nothing like I expected. I could almost see a case for including on the main album as another slightly odd one to go with the two singles but it is probably better suited to being fun for the deluxe. The other two bonus tracks are great as well. Just Imagine definitely fulfills that Kylie emotopop brief, though it probably could do with going somewhere a bit bigger just as it cuts off. Somebody To Love is even more lovely. I'd put it on the main album, but it is fitting closer to the deluxe.

That HMV green vinyl looks stunning. I want, though the lack of bonus tracks on the vinyl will annoy me. There'll no doubt be a reissue of some sort sometime next year anyway so maybe that'll do me in the meantime.

10 Out of 10 is really elevated from being on the album though will never be a stand alone track I search out. Any reason why streaming skips it?
