NME rank Madonna's 10 greatest singles

I can't argue with anything in that list - all impeccable singles.

And nice to see Express Yourself in there, it doesn't always get its dues I feel and it is SO good.
 
Its a solid list and quite a tough act to do one for as she has so many huge songs that are overfamiliar now.
 
I'd swap 'Music' and 'Don't Tell Me' for 'You'll See' and 'Bad Girl', but a good list anyway!
 
I have grown to appreciate "Don't Tell Me" a lot over the years, and it has aged well, but seems a bit odd to see it favored over the likes of "Live to Tell", "Into the Groove", "Justify My Love", "Papa Don't Preach", etc. But again, there are only ten slots.
 
You can’t ever realistically do a Madonna Top 10. You can do a Little Mix Top 10 or a Brandy Top 10 or even an Ed Sheeran Top 10 if you’re that demonic, but not Madonna.

She had a career Top 10 in the bag by 1986 and she’d barely even got out of bed at that point.
 
I like 'Don't tell me' but I think it would barely scrape into my top 100 Madonna songs. I think I prefer every other song from the 'Music' album!

'Papa Don't Preach' is a definite omission. 'Nothing Really Matters' not so much - although it IS interesting that nearly all the contestants on that first RuPaul Madonna themed challenge opted for THAT look. I'd also say it was lazy of them. You're given a blank Madonna canvas to work with and you put on a bath robe!!
