Old TOTP (BBC4)

Madchester is so real music. There's highlights but the whole thing was never that big until Britpop.

Why did MILLI VANILLI have to take all the FLAK for MIMING. Goodness knows there were plenty of other OFFENDERS

I can only imagine that it was some sort of revenge for Hitler :(

Goodness knows that stunning 49ers songbird, fraud and compulsive liar DAWN MITCHELL was never publicly shamed although I’m heading round her caravan right now to throw doughnuts at her Mini

I'm gonna do a catch-up for 1988 then...I;m going to try and stay in sync with the actual broadcasts this year(!)

Where was I....oh yeah, New Order's hilarious performance of "Fine Time". Priceless.

Amazing how immaculate and untouchable New Order seemed in the 80's. They were so detached and mysterious. And yet, in reality, they were a hooligan, a sociopath, a geek with anxiety and Gillian Gilbert about whom very little is known, even now.

Oh, hang on - I skipped a couple of episodes because I wanted see New Order...I've also just remembered that I missed the NO episode because I was in the school pantomime that year! :D

Rick Astley- shit...Michael Jackson - "Smooth Criminal" indeed; turned out it was criminal how smooth he liked 'em.

"Left To My Own Devices" - great record. My sister had the 12" with that totally weird ass b-side about the sound of the atom splitting.

Introspective seemed like such an odd decision at the time but seems utterly imperial now. A total "fuck you - this time "Disco" is a proper album and who cares what you think?".

Nice bass work from Craig on that Bros song. They should hold onto him.

Oh.

Stakker Humanoid. The laddie who actually made the record was later to find himself doing awfully well as half of Future Sound Of London...who were much better than this rather dated aceeeid cash-in.

Angry Anderson. Shite. Wouldn't call him a cunt to his face tho'.

That Erasure video is seriously cheap. I guess things must have been a bit tight at Mute Records.

As much as I dislike "Mistletoe and Wine", it was a pretty brave move for Cliff to put his faith right at the centre of his music. I guess he wasn't the commercial force that he had been by that time and the worst it could have done is keep him to a loyal niche audience. Instead he had a massive hit that still brings in the royalties.

I fucking hate Bon Jovi and I always did. Absolute shite and onions. Cunts, every single one of them.

The KLFs dance version of Downtown the previous year was vastly better than this.

I remember not thinking much of "Stop" at the time. What a cloth-eared snob my 15 yr old self could be...

Poor The Four Tops - putting out a perfect summer record in December and then having to mime on British telly.

Fuck year - Buffalo Stance. The absolute tits.

My sister was a huge NC fan, something she credited to me for introducing her to NC via her collab with The The. But the truth is that our kid was (and still is) cool as fuck and knew the good shit when she heard it.

Cherry's last album - Broken Politics - is utterly marvellous, if you haven't heard it.

I don't have the strength for the Xmas special, that'll have to wait until tomorrow.

Jeez, where did Kylie get those "bunch of grapes" earrings? I know it was the '80s but come the fuck on.

Here's Kim with her FOUR-LETTER WORD

Is it CUNT or FUCK Kim? WE NEVER DID FIND OUT

I must have seen straight through the mystique because I always had a very definite sense that they were highly unpleasant individuals and can only bring myself to like the odd song. Although I’d obviously have a chomp on Peter’s hook :side-eye:

INNER CITY'S PARIS GREY :disco::disco::disco::disco::disco::disco::disco::disco:

I wanna be 18 again :(

The first Inner City album was something else

We as PEOPLE OF THE WORLD TODAY
Should come together
And help one another
We should build our nation
FREE from INNER CITY DECAY

Funny Jason citing this as his breakthrough on The Story of 1989

"Nothing Can Divide Us" cruelly SNUBBED :D
