Old TOTP (BBC4)

Just goes to show - restricting yrself to No. 1 singles doesn't make for a great programme. Mind you, given the 2019 effort had barely a soul I could have picked out of a line-up, there has to be a balance somewhere.

Oh - I didn't remember the Pet Shop Boys being on twice - what was the point of moving them from one stage to another with the exact same set up?

Fuck this. Wet Wet Wet and then the 80's Hollies doing their 80's version of the 60's hit that people actually bought, a rare example of a band covering themselves.

The Hollies look like the cast of The Bill.

Right, here we go then.

Amused by the visual effects already, "stop"ping the film when Andy Bell mouths the word "stop". Hilarious.

A-Ha dressed as sailors :side-eye:

Manager - "Right lads, the performance footage is OK but we need something more for the video. Any ideas?"
a-ha - "Fuck off we're trying to write the next album here"
Manager - "Look, any more of your cheek and it's the sailor suits"
a-ha - "Fucking dare you!"

*3 days later*

a-ha - "shit"

Oh come on, he can't have the greatest personal hygiene. He certainly wouldn't thank you. Unless it's all an act and he'd burst into tears and then shake yr hand.

Nothing a good hosing wouldn’t sort out. And they never say thank you anyway :side-eye:

That's the WAY LOVE IS
That's the WAY LOVE IS
That's the WAY LOVE IS

And now a PUFFY-EYED BRUNO BROOKES brings you MIKE AND THE MECHANICS

I mean we wish him well and all but HOL'S SOLO HITS really weren't MUCH COP

No

What a LOAD OF OLD SHIT that BROTHER BEYOND song was *flush*

MARC AND GENE have ROCKETED TO THE TOP! ANNIE HOGAN so far off the stage her piano is virtually in the audience, poor LOVE :D

Ooh this is my fave 'NILLI number

I've been SEARCHING HIGH
I've been SEARCHING LOW

Just catching up now.

I know Then Jericho were a load of hollow, bombastic old toot, but I've always quite enjoyed Big Area. And The Motive.

Mind you, Mark Shaw is only a very slightly improved version of Paul King.

I think Gary Davies and Anthea Turner must be one of the most gruesome presenter pairings yet.

I like both Big Area and Be My Twin. They were two horrible, horrible performances though. I really don't know who or where Mark Shaw thought he was and the muggy dance moves from the minor members of Brother Beyond were unfortunate. The relentlessly bouncy Nathan had difficulties making his mark for those wizzy twin special effects too.

Holly Johnson really was a funny old queen. He reminds me of a magician.

I have always loved a bit of You Got It.
