I've always been well disposed towards Ian Broudie despite not being a fan of his work. He had quite the shift as a producer and always seemed like a very normal, wryly funny guy.

The lyrics to Who Do You Think You Are are some seriously cobbled together nonsense. Not sure how I've only just noticed that.

Wet Wet Wet about to implode & no wonder, "Strange" is just a dull retread of older hits, they all look over it. Marti about to run off stage for his next fix.

"Open Road" by Gary Barlow. YAWN. Wanted to be the new George Michael yet did nothing but release the most boring, forgettable, MOR bollocks going.

"Paranoid Android" by Radiohead. I know everyone WANKS OFF over "OK Computer" but I prefer "The Bends", "Kid A", "Amnesiac", & "Hail To The Thief" over it :o

This is UNDENIABLE though. Sweeping, epic, musically adventurous yet commercial enough to hit the top 3. Stellar guitar work from Jonny Greenwood too. TENS ACROSS THE BOARD.

I can't watch this era of Eternal without thinking about that story their manager told about how they (specifically Vernie) made his life a living hell :D

SISTERS GRIMM indeed!

What WAS the story with this George Michael duet with some complete random? I assumed a Neil Tennant/Cicero 'will bottom 4 record deal' scenario, but the other guy looks like a middle-aged busker!

My thoughts during that Closer Than Close performance

0.30: Oh, she's miming.
0.45: Wait, this is live?
2.00: :disco: :disco: :disco::disco::disco:

ICONIC

Is this Gary Barlow song about GOD? :zombie:

He was signed to George's own offshoot record label, Aegean, & this song was a tribute to George's mother who'd recently passed away from cancer. I had to mute it to be honest, it was cutting too CLOSE TO THE BONE after losing my mum last year :(

As much as I always liked George, one thing he did that I didn't like was close down this record label a couple of years later, dropping artists like Toby Bourke after he'd been so vocal a few years before about his own treatment by Sony.

An incredible run of hits but really 2 absolute ALL TIME CUNTS :D

It says it all that someone with as great a voice as Easther Bennett couldn't get near launching a solo career after Eternal were consigned to the dumper.

Quite embarrassed to beat GARY DAVIES in pointing out that half of 87's top 10 was OLD SHIT or COVERS THEREOF

BRING ON ACID HOUSE

Meanwhile much as I love OUR LISA her cover of 'Never Never Gonna Give You Up' just shows how much of the BARRY MAGIC was in the ARRANGEMENTS

That was Lisa Stansfield's last top 40 hit, wasn't it?

Bit of an uninspired release from a very good album, but I do remember seeing the video with Lisa's NUDE SCENE SHOCK in pretty heavy rotation at the time.

Not much to write home about on these two episodes as lots of repeats and Britpop. That Eternal gospel performance was an absolute RACKET though! :D

"Whatever" by En Vogue - always loved this SLINKY follow up to "Don't Let Go" - shame it was a little too SUBTLE to land in the top 10

The melancholy "Brazen (Weep)" by Skunk Anansie came within a whisker of giving them their only top 10 but just missed at number 11 :( Skin in FINE VOICE & looking as ICONIC as always :disco:

"Midnight In Chelsea" by Bon Jovi - a career worst. No wonder he released it solo, I wouldn't blame the rest of the band if they'd vetoed these absolute DREGS.

I don't mind this BAZZA COVER by Lisa but I wouldn't count it amongst her GREATEST MOMENTS.

I remember being quite shocked at the video though - I thought she was going to SHOW HER VAG at one point :D/:disco:

Also, Wet Wet Wet are clearly SO OVER IT at this point, but I definitely WOULD with the drummer :horny:

"Sun Hits The Sky" by Supergrass - great late stage Britpop summer tune :disco:

Why am I getting the impression that the SISTERS GRIMM insisted on this God-bothering rendition of "I Wanna Be The Only One"? :D

Ugh, I always fall so far behind...even with all these dropped episodes...where was I...?

Lisa Stansfield has a hit in 1997? My memory comes up with precisely nowt. She had a recording studio in Rochdale which she built and made available at low prices to give something back to her community. Nice one.

Is Michael Hutchence still the most high profile dangerwank death?

Also, why has Kylie replaced her hair with 2 Brillo pads for this?

I think this was my favourite Divine Comedy single. But the high chart position was a 3-different-CD-singels-at-£1.99-each job. I should know - I bought them all.

I'm starting to take the number of top ten singles Cast had very personally. Irredeemable shite.

I do love Mark and Lard. They don't look so happy here...this is from during their short stint on the Breakfast show, mind you and we now know that they were not enjoying themselves and nor were the listeners...

The Charlatans at their commercial peak. Slinky little number this. They were always a bit more soulful than the baggy/Dadrock gloop with which they often found themselves sharing compilation space.

"Block Rockin' Beats" still sounds great to me. They were well and truly on their game here, ye fraternal Chemicals.
