Russia 2019: Sergey Lazarev - Scream

It’s just Bulgaria 2018 all over again. Hyped to fuck. And an overproduced calculated disappointment. I’ve no doubt he will perform it well but this is not a winner. Not by a long shot.
 
Well anything was going to disappoint after 2016, especially an uptempo. "You Are The Only One" is one of the greatest Eurovision moments of all time and one of the best pop songs of the decade, period. I think it's pretty logical they went with a ballad...although it's hardly mindblowing is it.

I'm sure he can sell the crap out of it and after last year I imagine Russia will go full throttle with the stage show. Even though it's generic it's already 10 times more memorable than a lot of other crap this year so there's THAT at least.

I was hoping for a banger but it's decent and the staging is bound to be great isn't it? Not in any way exciting but it can go in the good pile.
 
Do you think he will be back again? 3rd place again... hardly in the league of flop comebacks like Rybak, Perelli, Carola etc
 
Carola was a flop comeback? Didn’t she place fifth last time.
 
The calculation didn't quite pay off for him, did it? They courted the jury vote with the ballad, but I'm quite sure that his previous banger got more votes on both fronts?
 
This came up randomly on spotify and it remains a total dud, even the build up in the final minute couldn't save it. He's lucky Maruv wasn't in the mix cause she would have eaten up all the Eastern European televotes he ended up with.

At least he's made a complete U-Turn and went back to releasing more than a handful of bangers since.



 
Lucky Stranger remains his finest moment. Specifically, the parts between the bridge and the chorus where he's joined by a chorus of Russian gays giving us a full-on Macho Man chant :disco:
