Taylor Swift - "Lover" [New Album] (1 Viewer)

It's flown a bit under the radar but Taylor's Christmas single is probably the best original Christmas song of the last 3 years or so, at least since Gwen's You Make It Feel Like Christmas

it's just marvellous :disco:

I bought this using part of an iTunes voucher I got for Christmas. After 2 listens it sounds like a less good retread of the previous album though I’m sure it’ll grow. Early running puts ‘The Man’ a clear favourite for me.

It's got some highlights but generally rather dull. Certainly not a patch on 1989 or even Red.
Where do you rank Reputation in all of that? I used to think Red was one of her strongest , but then I realized I only REALLY bother with the first four and last two tracks.

1. 1989
2. Reputation
3. Speak Now
4. Lover
5. Red
6. Fearless

Taylor Swift? I don't know her

Hmm, I would say:

1. 1989
2. Red
3. Lover
4. Reputation

Not really familiar with Speak Now or Fearless beyond the singles. I don't know Taylor Swift either.

I don't know Taylor Swift but I imagine it to be the bottom given how her music matured/got better/went pop.

I couldn’t get through this on the first two plays but then tried it on shuffle and enjoyed it far more. There’s some really good songs on there. The Man remains #1 though. Might try it in sequence again.

Is that co-written with or featuring HAIM? It sounds exactly like them minus guitars...

I'm on such a Taylor fix lately. Her pop discography is building up very nicely - she obviously loves being a pop superstar, performing stadiums, having hit songs on the radio so I hope she doesn't go back to country any time soon. That'll still be there when her viability as a popstar dries up.

I gave some of the songs on Lover I'm less keen on another shot and I really like Cornelia Street. The chirp-chirp production reminds me a bit of Days Are Gone by HAIM and the songwriting is really strong on that one.

Now can she announce and start promoting The Man please? Huge hit waiting to happen. Cruel Summer is still my favourite thing on the album.

The Man and Cruel Summer sounds like hits to me. I’m surprised neither has been pushed.

Oh this is new? I watched the documentary last night, my friend wanted something in the background while we made dinner. It was alright, I liked her more.

The new song was a bit meh though

Didn't Lover (the song) end up being a bit of a sleeper hit like Delicate was? Or is that my mind revising history.

I'm hardly the first homo on the internet to say this, but it's BIZARRE that she seems to want to piss away The Man and Cruel Summer from this album. They are unlikely to be hits now either as the album has been out FOREVER!

I think Lover did alright. But it is odd they haven’t pushed The Man. It’s already done very well on spotify given it’s not had a proper push.

like Jark pointed out, The Man was somewhat pushed as a single but not a proper one, it was probably released to radio in Lithuania and Italy only.

I wonder if The Man will be a single? :)

The documentary was...ok. I mean I don't expect her to make an unflattering documentary, but it felt very, very safe and cutesy. I think she's clearly very talented, but ultimately not a particularly interesting person.

Truth or Dare, it wasn't.

I enjoyed the doc. She seems like a chronic overthinker, a total neurotic mess and somebody who is ultimately quite damaged, so I totally relate.

I actually quite liked the documentary.

Typical me to start really liking her now that everyone's going off her. Oh well!

Surely they will push this one and then Cruel Summer in May or so?

She is still quite old school and let’s each single run it’s course with full budget videos and the like, she isn’t the type to smash out singles every two months so fair enough on waiting a bit - the album seems to tick over ok as it is.

Is she still peddling this album?

Surely it's time to move on ?
Um, why? The Man is an obvious hit waiting to happen and with a good video should be another top 20/10 for her - why on earth would she abandon it now?

Thing is, she started promo way back in April of 18 with ME! which from what I Can gather received mixed reviews and then followed up with another single until June and the album was released this past September no? hence why it feels old but it isn't.
