Some are saying that it is averaging 1.6 million without device viewing. It was apparently getting over 500k on devices last year so that would put it at over 2 million which is on par with last year? I don’t have a clue where anyone is getting these figures from though.

The highest episode of the week got 1.696m, but it was the only episode to get above 1.6m. The average is the 1.520m figure I mentioned above. That is without device viewing. I seem to recall on the episodes last year that device data was available for (i.e. those that got into the top 50 shows on barb.co.uk) added around 20 -25% on device viewing, and so i assumed similar for thr shows that didn't chart when estimating an average. So if you added 25% to the average figure we do have, that would give you 1.9m as an estimate including device/platform viewing.

I don't have the full data and I'd be suspicious of any figure you see quoted without a source, but I think 1.9m is probably a pretty reasonable estimate.

Yes, it was. That was the episode with 1.696m, and an audience share of 16.4%.

I gave up early in episode 2 but Patience has done decently for a Channel 4 drama.

I thought the first 3 episodes or so of Out There were fantastic. It got worse after that and the ending is appalling. It must have already been agreed they were doing more than one season but as you say the ratings aren’t GREAT.

I'm not certain that's necessarily true or perhaps significantly true in terms of platform viewing for MAFS at least, some episodes of which made the top 50 and also did well on platform viewing. I imagine the demographic watching both shows is similar, so I'd expect them to do perform reasonably similar on platform viewing.

MAFS does better than Love Island on platform and device viewing? I think what they were possibly getting at is that Love Island makes up the majority of its final viewing figures on platform viewing where as MAFS is successful without live viewing.

No, platform viewing is just viewing not on TVs - sometimes referred to as device viewing (often by me depending on where I get info from, which I appreciate can add to possibly confusion). Then I've also seen reference to 4 screen viewing, which includes platform (the screens being TV, PC, tablets and smartphones).

Then consider that the two sites I get info from are BARB which includes platform and Thinkbox which doesn't, and they both display different info (Thinkbox breaks down commercial TV by channel and demographic but BARB doesn't), and it can be a minefield.

Perhaps think of it more as device rather than platform if that's useful? They may have watched two/three/whatever days after broadcast on ITVX, but the device they were watching on was still a TV, and therefore they are still included in the chart figure. All that isn't included is the other devices - i.e. PC, tablet or smartphone.

It's all a nonsense really as what you watch it on is irrelevant (and only getting more so) - a viewer is a viewer. I can only assume it's to do with how figures are reported

But bear in mind (just to cause further confusion!) that the figure you'll see quoted as the overnights includes live viewing and viewing later that same night - but obviously not the remainder of the week which is included in any weekly chart.

That makes sense. I didn’t actually know that and thought it was all live viewers as the programme is shown but with it being referred to as overnights that does tally up in my head.

That I don't know. And because the website which breaks the info down (thinkbox) doesn't archive their charts like BARB does (and they don't get enough viewers to feature there), I can't go back and check.

So let's record it here for posterity so when CBB/MAFS are on again we can compare. That one episode of LAFS I mentioned was a bit of an outlier. Over the week the average was 18.5% live, 31.3% same day catch up, and 50.2% catch up over the rest of the week.

Yes, the last episode was all over the place and didn't feel anything like a finale until right at the end with the white horse and cheesy Clunes voiceover. They were clearly expecting to get to continue the story but we'll see about that I guess.

Barb, the industry’s standard for understanding what people watch, has released data from its Establishment Survey showing that 20m UK homes (68.3%) had access to a subscription video-on-demand (SVOD) service in Q4 2024. This is a slight dip from 20.1m UK homes (68.8%) in Q2.

Barb has again shared an advertising tier estimate for Netflix, Disney+ and Amazon. The number of UK homes on the Netflix ad tier continues to build, reaching 4.7m (16% of UK homes) up more than a fifth from 3.8m (13.1%) in Q3. The Disney+ ad tier reached 1.5m (5.2% of UK homes), up more than a quarter from 1.2m (4.1%) in Q3. A different approach to moving homes to its ad tier means 87% of homes with Amazon Prime Video access in Q4 are on the ad tier – 11.6m homes (39.4% of UK homes), slightly up from 11.5m homes in Q3.

• Amazon Prime Video: 13.3m UK homes (45.5%) had access to Amazon Prime Video in Q4, slightly down from 13.4m (45.9%) in Q3.
• Disney+: 7.6 UK homes (26%) had access to Disney+ in Q4, up from 7.5m UK homes (25.7%) in Q3.
• Apple TV+: 2.6m UK homes (8.9%) had access to Apple TV+ in Q4, up from 2.5m UK homes (8.6%) in Q3.
• Paramount+: 2.7m UK homes (9.1%) had access to Paramount+ in Q4, slightly down from 2.8m UK homes (9.4%) in Q3.
• Discovery+: 3.1m UK homes (10.7%) had access to Discovery+ in Q4, slightly down from 3.2m UK homes (10.9%) in Q3.

Meanwhile, the Netflix ad tier is now in almost 1m more homes than in Q3, while the Disney+ ad tier is now in 26% more homes than the last quarter. The majority of homes on these two services are still using the service without ads, so there is plenty of room for their ad tiers to grow.”

I have Netflix through my Sky subscription and they are pushing the with ads option as the default now. I imagine they may have heavier amounts of ads than some of the other providers and don't really see myself dropping a tier.

I get Disney free with my bank account and they switched to with ads last year. I don't watch too much on Disney so that's fine.

No idea, sorry. The only Sky channels that are reported on Thinkbox are Sky Sports Main Event (top programme for week above EFL Cup 855k), Sky Mix (Premier League Darts 255k) and Sky Witness (Nothing To Declare Australia 65k).

I don't follow Sky on X, but having a look through now, they don't seem to herald viewing figures at all.
