I think Dave's is the only song I don't know on the main list, which makes me feel less out of touch than I really am!
 
The year-end chart is a bit redundant these days. Songs selling over much longer time periods now means it'll be massively weighted towards 2021 hangovers, those released in the first quarter, or "Mr Brightside".

You'd almost need to leave it a couple of years and then come back to get a true sense of which 2022 hits were the biggest.

The chart of 2022 on that TOTP review show on Christmas Eve had Heat Waves in the top ten, and I think higher than the #8 it made in the year end chart last year.

And I'm fairly sure when I checked, its highest position this year was #20 or something in April.

And only fell out the chart a few weeks ago with the Christmas influx. I assume it has a good chance of recharting next week when they all fall out.

interesting that 22 of these 100 songs are 3 years old or older. I think as older people adopt streaming en masse, more songs from the 90s, 00s and 10s will become staples.
 
There’s also a shit load from 2020 and 2021. I wonder what percentage were actual 2022 releases? I’m assuming less than half.
 
I truly don't see the logic behind the OCC dragging their heels on a recurrent chart to banish all these ancient songs. Surely the record companies would prefer more space to give a platform to new acts as well?
