Where's the Three Degrees thread?

How is their 'If My Friends Could See Me Now'?

I'll wager it's no SHOWSTOPPER a la LINDA CLIFFORD

Well it isn't the Albert Hall and there is a random edit in the middle but here they are:

No CLIFFORD of course, but VAL certainly does have an engaging presence. She does a good Dionne on I'll Never Love This Way Again too:

I do love that song. Such a late seventies big ballad moment.

I wondered why this was bumped and am sooo pleased it's cause they DID release 3D - it showed up on Amazon as a recommendation. I was worried they might not, but of course they were saving that as a treat till the end. WHAT a selection of bonus tracks.

I picked up the 'New Directions' re-issue this week. I love the fabulous story in the Liner notes of Sheila being inspired to write the lyrics to 'The Runner' after chasing a gay man out of her hotel room with a frying pan! :D

I've only just got New Dimensions, and after the truly fabulous 3D I don't think it is quite as good, even if it does have the big hits. That story is wonderful however - I will never be able to listen to The Runner in quite the same way again. :D

I don't think I've seen this highly undignified video for The Heaven I Need before:

Sheila's hairdo really does scream silly attention seeking moo, doesn't it?

I'm not the SCHOOL KID
You fell in love with
Somewhere BACK IN TIME
You might have grown up
It's time to OWN UP
You've had your LOVERS
And YES
I've had MINE
But I love ya
I still want ya
There's so much that I can give
If we were less demanding
A little more understanding
Together we can find a better WAY TO LIVE
*synth bell solo* :disco:
MY SIMPLE HEART
MY SIMPLE HEART YEAH YEAH YEAH YEAH
MY SIMPLE HEART
Will ALWAYS LOVE YOOOOU

I FINALLY got my hands on the reissue of "The Three Degrees" for christmas. It's pre the PROPER disco turnaround they had with the "New Dimensions-3D" double whammy but it's still absolutely blinding. I've loved every single minute of it and hard to believe some of it is 1973 given the disco FLAVOURINGS involved within.

Standout has to be "If and When" which is FUCKING outstanding. I'm going to have to get "International" (which I already have on vinyl) now on cd to complete the SET

Oh and can we do a MERGE on this old one ?

Why in the name of YVONNE ELLIMAN does the Amazon page for 'NEW DIMENSIONS' claim that the ARTISTÉ is that DIRTY OLD TART JACKIE GRAHAM?

Just listening to this on the headphones- it's even BETTER! They've applied some MENTAL CRAZY 70S STYLE SONIC EFFECT NONSENSE to it that I didn't notice on the big speakers...AMAZE :disco:

I've FINALLY got my hands on the 3D reissue

LOVELY

I was AGOG to find out it was only a NUMBER SIXTY THREE-ESQUE chart SMASH at the time

Maybe the later works of JANFT JACKSON will be similarly reassessed in 30 years time

Or maybe NOT

Let's face it, there's no JUSTICE in a world where "Jump The Gun" wasn't number one until this VERY DAY...

The in between PIR and Moroder album Standing Up For Love is being reissued by FTG, see HERE.

I don't think I'll bother, as their GH covers the key tracks on this one by the looks of things. My interest was piqued when I saw an unrecognised song, Do It, in a disco version, but it isn't up to much to these ears:

Nice of FunkyTownGroove to LIST all the albums that are now OUT OF PRINT

You could ALWAYS MAKE SOME MORE YOU KNOW

Just dipping my toes into the world of the Three Degrees, something which I have never done before. How have I been alive for thirty seven years without knowing 'The Runner'?

Having a bit of a Steps-inspired Three Degrees revival.

The disco bangers are obviously incredible, but I keep going back to 'Take Good Care of Yourself' this week. It's just so CLASSY :disco:

It's a FANTASTIC album. One I've had on vinyl for years, but I found a SEALED and MINT copy in a charity shop for a quid about a month ago and I've been playing it a lot since and then I sold the CD reissue on Discogs for £25 to someone in Australia only last week.

It's amazing how overlooked it is- total charity shop staple and never goes for much.

The follow up 3D is ALMOST as good too.

Also, non- disco related, but the A Journey Through SAW podcast bringing this gem into my life has given me much listening pleasure in recent times:
