Easily the best musical decade until the 80s.

This is off the top of my head and could change tomorrow. WHAT ABOUT YOU?

  3. Dusty Springfield - You Don't Have To Say You Love Me
  4. Glen Campbell - Witchita Lineman
  5. The Byrds - Mr Tambourine Man
  6. Animals - House of the Rising Son
  7. Walker Brothers - The Sun Ain't Gonna Shine No More
  8. Scott Walker - It's Raining Today
  9. The Kinks - Waterloo Sunset

  18. Four Tops - Reach Out I'll Be There
  19. Marlena Shaw - California Soul
  20. Esther and Abi Ofarim - Cinderella Rockefella

I kept it to one per artist otherwise it would have been very Dusty and Mamas heavy.

Curious to know how many on Moopy could/ would do it. I know some definitely can.

Pfff it would take a while to do something close to a proper top 20, but off the top of my head, and I can only think of big hits right now, sorry:

Make Your Own Kind Of Music - Mamma Cass
Black is black - Los Bravos
I want to hold your hands - Beatles
Come see about me - Supremes
Everybody loves somebody - Dean Martin
I'm gonna make you love me- Temptations (feat. Supremes)
Will you love me toorrow - Shirelles
Moon river - Henry Mancini
I want you back - Jackson 5
Build me up buttercup - Foundations
Proud Mary - Creedence Clearwater Revival
Mony Mony - Tommy James & The Shondells
Do you love me - The Contours
Da Doo Ron Ron - The Crystals
Good vibrations - Beach Boys

I could add another 5 predictable songs to complete it. I'm sure there are some obscure ones I adore but I can't think of right now.

Oh He Ain't Heavy He's My Brother is totally in my top 10 of the decade.

Good call on the Walker Brothers @Ag !

Hollies would be in my top 20 too (thanks Mum 😎) but probably not one of the big hits. ‘Stop stop stop’ *edit oh that got to #2

Might try and do this later

I have to think long and hard about which songs are my favourites, and which ones I'm hugely nostalgic about because of being childhood staples due to my parents listening to them. There will be some overlap, but the ones that immediately come to mind tend to be nostalgia rather than genuinely loving them.

There aren't many songs which fill me with sheer unadulterated joy as this though, I know that much.

Actually I think I may just post a few favourites here and then may compile a list after more thought.

I love this slice of Northern Soul

Always here for something unknown. I don't really *know* Northern Soul.

I've seen this album mentioned here before. It's very much a mood piece for me, but when it hits, it hits hard.

  • Love
Reactions: GNL
This was a delight to discover when I did a Bobbie Gentry deep dive a couple of years ago.

And for sheer gay melodrama, it doesn't get better than this. This side of Shirley Bassey, at least.

Fuck it

I avoided the Beatles, because it's easier than dealing with them Guitar and Sun are both very good. I am partial to The White Album.

I avoided the Beatles for 30 years but I'm glad I gave them a chance. It's like being invited to the secret code that makes them so wonderful.

I've not as familiar with the music of the 1960s as much as I probably should be. However I've always loved Tammy St. John's 'Dark Shadows and Empty Hallways'.

A bit heavy on the pop girls but I was very into the girl groups and Motown for a while.
