Actually no, that's always been my rule but the line is definitely being blurred these days with songs charting for a year before they peak, or singles from prior albums taking off for no particular reason (see Cruel Summer, Die for You, Bloody Mary, Sure Thing, etc.) It felt OK to include Cruel Summer since it never received a single push until this year.

If we are going strictly newly released Taylor, I'd go for "I Can See You".

I am much the same. Has it been a poor year for music, or am I just stupidly out of touch? Possibly both.

Possibly both for me. I know what I like, which I rarely hear what I like on new music playlists. As much as there is some dance pop around, so much of it is ruined by the continued problem of reverb and baby voices, both which grind my gears. Also Guetta and Co must be stopped with rehashing old tunes. It's the musical version of live action Disney.

I don't like Taylor Swift so that rules out about 70% of modern music. Also I tend to not discover new stuff by pop artists, as there's just so much I glaze over.

I can probably bring 10 or even 20 together if I focus. I liked that Prada track, which was slightly out of my comfort zone, but not really.

6. Bizarrap & Shakira - Pa Tipos Como Tú - definitely my favourite live performance of the year, I love her barely-concealed spite
