Charlie Brooker's BLACK MIRROR

The bit that really got me was the guy crossing the calendar off. The realisation that they do the whole thing again every day. That was just bleak.

I've never watched this before but I did find it... interesting, if not entertaining per se. I think I'll watch last week's too
 
There were a scary amount of people on twitter who were going "What a great idea, we should do this to all murderers/child abusers" :daf:

It wasn't much of a punishment really though was it considering she forgot about it from one day to the next.

Being put through the torture of thinking you've lost your daughter, that you're living in some sort of post-apocalyptic world, having your life put in danger, before being reminded of what you had done, publically humiliated and tortured on a daily basis would be fairly taxing I'd say; even if she couldn't remember the previous day, everything about her life is a perpetual hell.

All that aside, I suppose it's just as much as about keeping the mob happy as it is about making her really suffer; wiping her memory to continually satisfy the public's need for blood.
 
Just watched it. Blimey that was suitably dark. Best one since the pig fucking.
 
I watched this last night, absolute genius. Completely unsubtle dig at the public mob mentality sentiment and the media. I hate to bum him, but the man is very good.
 
I like how for the first half I was intrigued but slightly rolling my eyes at the stagey expository dialogue, and then it turned around and everything made sense.

Plus she did have broken memories, like when she knew the presenter, and the woods, but she couldn't quite place those memories.

I also liked how there was no real speculation if she was guilty or not.
 
I downloaded this before bed last night. MISTAKE.

Horrifying.

I liked how all the "watchers" seemed to be white as well, while the poor murderess was a BC :D

Bizarrely it's had less favourable reviews in comparison to the other episodes. I'm agree with Ag in that its the best one since the pig fucking and the guy obsessed with his girlfriend cheating.

That's the most striking one for me so far. It wasn't a million miles from what we have now and the thing is I think I'd let something like that totally overtake my life - I pick up on far too many details and obsess over them as it is, so to be able to go over each event in minute detail would surely lead to me to death. :(
 
I re-watched this last night. I guess the show is littered with clues. The actress playing the actress is brilliant in her inability to disguise her contempt for the murderess.

I thought it was clever - and it didn't go where I expected it to - but ultimately it wasn't all that engaging. The final scene was just silly too.
 
I thought that was crap tonight. Didn't seem to have any point to make beyond politicians are out of touch with the people.

Agreed. It was a bit like the One Million Merits episode from the last series - an hour of not-all-that-riveting television to make a rather basic tired point. At least the narrative was a little bit stronger in this. I didn't enjoy One Million Merits on ANY level.

That wasn't really the point it was trying to make at all though. The point was that people find it so much easier to be disaffected and cynical that they end up not standing for anything, which in many ways is worse than being a flawed politician.

But I agree it was a fairly thin premise that wasn't strong enough to call a full narrative.

This was in response to 'Be Right Back' I assume, the first episode? Just catching up on this series. The second episode of series 1 put me off so much that I'd not got round to watching any more, but everyone's reponses made me think I'd like to watch Series 2.

Loved the first episode of this series. Hayley Atwell gave a suitably restrained performance which meant it didn't ever blow over into melodrama. I thought the concept was frighteningly real (well the first stage anyway - less so the 2nd and 3rd stages of course!) and both moving and sinister. Looking forward to Episode 2 which seems to have got the biggest response from you all!
 
And the 2nd episode was better. Horrifying.

Not worth watching the 3rd?
 
Just watched the first two episodes of this. The second one was one of the most uncomfortable things I have ever seen. Really didn't like it at all.
 
I feel so stupid for not guessing the twist in the Rafe Spall part!

There has been no hype whatsoever this time around.

Also: Jon Hamm is SO FUCKING HOT.

Jon Hamm is proper fit.

I noticed the clock was wrong early on, but never figured the connection after the first and second stories. Nice use of perennial irritant 'I Wish It Could Be..." as an instrument of torture.
 
I see it's gone onto Netflix in the USA to great acclaim. Charlie Brooker getting success in the USA is a phenomenally odd thing, but then if Armando Iannucci can make it...

I enjoyed the White Christmas episode. Not the best episode of this, but one of the better ones.
