I really don't think his size/appearence comes into it. I mean Polanski and Woody Allen are hardly HOT TO TROT. I think it's more that, as powerful as he is, he's not a creative, so he's ultimately replaceable. In fact, his power is entirely based on reputation and influence rather than talent, so when that reputation is tarnished, he's essentially worthless.
Not that it necessarily excuses people like Winslet for working with them, but you can't just hire another Roman Polanski or Woody Allen any more than you could have replaced Michael Jackson when all the weird stuff came out about him in the 90s. Their movies are brand names to themselves.
