UK Charts/ Midweeks 2019

They have Ed Sheeran all over their new material too which sounds very Radio 2 friendly.

I was quite surprised when they were on Strictly the other week that they let the blond two sing now.

Always happens when they come back. The horror of letting Lee have a line or two in Steps...

Shall we resurrect this thread again for December midweeks/ Christmas number 1 chat?

Can someone who can provide some HOT MIDWEEK INFO for us all to marvel at please.

The midweeks are posted every Monday on the official chart website. I think any later ones we get the info from more chart focussed forums like ukmix or buzzjack.

I'm guessing the first update on Monday was missing streaming data, if AIWFCIY has shot up from 17 - 8.

According to the OCC, the contenders are

Lewis Capaldi - Before You Go
D Double E - Nice n' Clean (Silence The Critics)
Robbie William's & Tyson Fury - Bad Sharon
James Blunt - Monsters
Waltham Forest Junior Choir with Tony Mprtimer - Stsy Another Day
Bastille - Can't Fight This Feeling
Tones & I - Dance Monkey
X Factor Celebrity winner ?
Frankie Morland - World In Danger
Little Mix - One I've Been Missing
Stormzy ft Ed Sheeran - Own It
Mariah
Wham!
Pogues

Welcome. And The X Factor Celebrities single missed the top 40, it's not that you can't find it. What a flop!

That definitely makes me think streaming data was missing originally, as it was in the first midweek, and it's still #1 on iTunes.

How upsetting :D

From that lot I would have thought it’s between Mariah and Tones & I.

Tones & I sales are dropping now. I assume the streaming ratio will change before Christmas if that continues, so that will harm it further.

If it isn't Mariah, I reckon it will come out of nowhere like that sausage roll song last year. Although I had no idea about half of that lost anyway.

Nothing else stands out for me in that list. Lewis Capaldi and Ed Sheeran have surely sold so many albums now that most tracks have hit their peak. Robbie Williams is not a singles chart force at all now. James Blunt hasn’t hadn’t a hit song for at least 10 years, and X Factor can not get a hit for love nor money. The Pogues and Band Aid seem to have lost traction over the past few years where Mariah keeps growing. I don’t have a clue who D Double E or Frankie Morland are.

D Double E is the IKEA Christmas ad, apparently.

Frankie Morland is an 8 year old boy. I don't think we need to know any more.

Just noticed that the Christmas songs are all doing well midweek on spotify UK:

3 Mariah
5 Wham
9 Pogues
10 Ariana
12 Brenda Lee
13 Bublé
15 Band Aid
23 Andy Williams
24 Shaky
29 Elton John
31 Bieber
32 Chris Rea
33 Kelly Clarkson
36 Bobby Helms
37 John Lennon
38 Leona
39 Bublé

I don't think they were doing quite so well last year midweek, with still three weeks to go, were they?

And with paid for singles sales down around 25-30% year on year, and as far as I'm aware no tinkering to the streaming rules since last Christmas, surely that works in the favour of them all this year in the final chart.

I do hope if that is the case, that we may start getting some NEW decent Christmas songs. More should jump on the bandwagon for the seasonal £££.

Yes, I'd like to see more big acts doing new Christmas songs as well. As much as nothing I've heard from it (admittedly not much) has done anything for me, the fact that Robbie's album looks like it's going to be a big seller may make labels notice more.

In the era of streaming, it doesn't make sense not to release at least one track. Particularly if you've got a record label that can ensure placement on the spotify playlists.

It is a shame the Little Mix one is a bit of a whiny snoozefest as they are exactly the sort of act who you could imagine producing a proper Christmas hit.

Taylor Swift has one coming out tomorrow (with a music video as well) so let’s see how that does.

It must be his highly anticipated debut album that is released tomorrow then.

That's when the CHARTS were CHARTS

Christmas parties are a bit earlier this year - I know they were trying to have one in here on the 20th and loads of people were like, ooooh no, busy, that's when I head off to my family etc.

Ours is Friday 13th. Who knew I was also paraskevidekatriaphobic?

Brenda Lee really has become a favourite the last few years. I've just read she was 14 when she recorded it. Also she's still alive.

The Spotify chart today has many older hits (non Xmas) climbing 20-50 places. I think when Spotify sent out their 'here's what you've listened to the most in 2019', many people have naturally listened to their most played etc, which has seen many of these hits rise massively.

Quite an interesting phenomenon. Makes perfect sense, but goes to show you how the charts can be impacted so easily via streaming.

So Mariah is at #8 this week, when it was #6 last week. In the US she was also higher last year (#14) than this one (#18). Is she losing steam? I hope not, otherwise fuck Xmas!
