Madonna - Girl Gone Wild

FORGIVE ME

Hard Candy is much better than MDNA but to say that it has no fillers is just crazy.

It's a success in the sense that she finally seems to embrace that she's become a niche gay club artist and not a worldwide superstar so she can sound and look as cheap and trashy as she wants - none in the mainstream cares anymore.

Sadly she also sounds DIABOLICALLY nasal. I don't think she's ever sounded worse on record.

I do wonder if the vocal was a bit of an experiment, a bit like how she changed her style a lot through the 80s and early 90s before smoothing it out. It really is a revolting sound.

And MDNA is far better than Hard Candy, which has almost no merit to me.

And me. I mean, MDNA is just quite average. Hard Candy as a whole is unutterably shit.

I prefer MDNA as well. But again, it's just AVERAGE. Another one that I had such high hopes for when it leaked and everyone came on here SPUNKING over it, but I never quite understood the love for. MDNA has much better highs ("I'm Addicted", "Love Spent", "Masterpiece", yes) but "Hard Candy" makes the fatal flaw of not actually being a Madonna album, but one she guest vocals on. For most artists that's bad, for someone who relies so much on her personality, it's unforgiveable. "4 Minutes" wasn't bad at the time, and obviously was the mega hit it needed to be, but I still think "Give It 2 Me" was the cheapest thing she'd ever released production-wise, a trend that she carried through "Celebration" and "Girl Gone Wild" itself, and was her worst single choice in a long, long time, perhaps ever. "She's Not Me" is still fun, though, and "Heartbeat", albeit that the latter should have stuck with the electro-glitter "The One" style production of the intro rather than the lumpen hip hop beat it melded itself to eventually. The worst stuff ("Incredible", "Spanish Lesson") are amongst the worst things she's ever, ever done, though....

I LOVE IT. Her only decent for YEARS until Ghosttown came along. :disco:

It's SO EROTIC :D

The thing is, much as she gets shit for her age and general lack of dignity, even Miley Cyrus wouldn't have had a hit with this, it's just a fucking terrible song by any standard (excluding comedy, obviously).

I think that's the biggest problem Madonna has these days really. The A-list producers are no longer interested in giving her their top material, because frankly why would they?

Even if she WAS given a hit-worthy track, it still wouldn't be a hit. For anyone over 40 it's really difficult.

I disagree with that last sentence entirely- at this point, she'd only just come off "Hard Candy", which did ok relatively speaking, and a Greatest Hits. She was nowhere near the low commercial ebb that the last two albums have left her. And to be honest, before Timbaland, she never WORKED with the "A-List producers" anyway...

Well the producers she is working with clearly aren't giving her their best stuff. Fair enough Benny Bennassi also gave her I'm Addicted which is a highlight of MDNA, but he should be ASHAMED of Girl Gone Wild and Best Friend - they're utter trash and unworthy of any A-list pop star, let alone Madonna.

And this is the man best known for SATISFACTION :D

Well I DID say it was the unpopular opinion around Moopy

but speaking of lows, sure Hard Candy has Incredible and Spanish Lesson but they do not come close to Bday Song, I Fucked Up, Best Friend, Turn Up The Radio, Superstar, I Don't Give A; even I can't stand GAYL these says and always wonder what possesed her to record it. I wish she would leave Nicki Minaj alone  (not because I pity La Minaj, it0s cause she's well shit!)

The original demo version of Rebel Heart was pretty good. I think she would've stood more chance with that (as long Avicii's name came first). Then all of a sudden, she's up on stage pretending to be high and someone with poor instincts has turned it into an acoustic mid-tempo easy listening jam.

I wonder which would win out of Revolver, Gimme All Your Luvin' (:daf:), Girl Gone Wild, Turn Up the Radio and Bitch I'm Marge as her shittest single.

I LOVE ALL OF THOSE :D (except Turn Up The Radio)

I'm particularly partial to GAYLUV these days

The Showgirls as music thing off the last page is quite true, her recent runs of singles have been a series of ironic masterpieces. She's pioneered cringe pop. Bitch I'm Madonna is Curb Your Enthusiasm level. I love Beyonce and Kanye's palpable "IF I HAVE TO"-ness in the video.

I remember reading on here about one of her recent singles that it sounded like if one of the Real Housewives put out her own song. That's exactly what it's like :D

Well YES but no-one's mentioned Fire Island or Paris yet

Frankly I think it's a bit more CANVEY

We might be 'safe' from that, but we still have the inevitable Baby Jane, Edina Monsoon, Mae West and her-from-Eastenders 'hilarity'. She's over 50 you know.

Haven't seen the word Granny yet either. Are we out of the woods yet are we out of the woods yet are we in the clear?

I do hope you re-enact your avatar's eye-ball rolling at the "fa-ah-ah-eye-eeh-yeuh" bits, the song certainly does feel like being possessed by something dark and beyond when caught in its gutter glam grip.

Surely it can’t be FOUR YEARS since we last discussed this HOT GEM in its very own thread (although we’ve doubtlessly mentioned it elsewhere - I know it’s never very far from MY mind :disco:)

STILL quotable in a wide variety of situations
STILL a comedy classic
STILL so very HYPNOTIC

EVEN BETTER THAN VOGUE :disco::disco::disco:

This comes back every four years on a US election year. Coincidence? I think NOT.

Possibly the cheapest, trashiest, most generic song she’s ever recorded, alongside Turn Up The Radio and Revolver. It’s not a particularly terrible song, but it really sums up how far she had strayed from trailblazing Madonna to “desperate for a hit at any cost Madonna”.

I've grown to enjoy it more than a 5. I'd probably stretch to 7 now. Admittedly in the way The Cheeky Song is a 10, but 'enjoy it' is more than I can say for over half of the last three albums.

The room is spinning
It MUST be the TANQUERAY

In all seriousness though there was an instrumental of it with outtakes from the video which I loved but someone's taken it off YouTube no doubt after MADAME reported it or something :(
