The Gilded Age (New Julian Fellows HBO Drama)

”And who else will be there, the latest arrivals from Ellis Island?” :D

Quite enjoyed the latest episode rather much and didn’t find anything to sneer at. The ladder climbing through the charity was a lot of fun while Mr. Russell was branded a murderer :D And I bloody love the costume design.

The staff storyline was the worst one yet. I can only imagine it’s all linked to to some overarching canon storyline that ties into Downton Abbey or something.

Mr. Russell in me now. What a dream daddy.

Looking at the cast on IMDb (Mr. Fane looked too young, I had to investigate) and I’m shocked how many Broadway actors they got for all the servants. Everyone must have been out of work.

That’s what I’m saying, the guy who has 2 Tony’s is relegated to playing a butler!

I DO like the bitchy scrotum-faced servant who tried to bed BEARDED DADDY, although I'm not entirely sure what her role in the house is meant to be (head of staff? governess?). That she looks like she's just eaten a BOWL OF WASPS is mildly iconic.

Broadway actors are just GRATEFUL for that HBO DOLLAR. being RICH in STAGE ACCLAIM doesn't pay the BILLS!

I think I audibly GASPED when I saw him topless.

Was a shame we got to see her QUITE NICE TITS but all we really got to see on him was his back (good lats) and a brief look at his well developed chest.

What a strange life it must have been to be constantly surrounded by servants.

However I think I would have liked being a maid.

And QUITE STRANGE that hot bearded daddy and woman from Fargo seem to be continually surrounded by HANDSOME TWINKS in gilded baroque outfits...who are never seen or referenced in any of the staff/servant scenes :D

“Heads have rolled for less”

:disco:

The English way of serving was terribly exciting 👀

after coming to terms with it being much lighter than i thought, i too am enjoying all the silliness. love how the head butler goes to work for his mistresses arch-rival across the street and thinks no one will ever know!

i just really wish marion and the baby russell were a bit more exciting.

This was a lot better without the stupid staff storylines (didn’t mind when being intertwined with The Money).

Poor old Marrianne getting shafted out of a trip to light show because Mrs. Russell doesn’t have enough room :D

I also enjoyed “Bannister, ask John for some tips about luncheon. He served it so well”

I don’t like the narrative that his wife is just a vacuous social climber and he’s the capitalist that CARES.

I'm enjoying this for the camp asides, camp costumes and camp aunts.

The actual important plotlines? I honestly forget them from week to week :D
Something about a train derailing, some woman being exiled from the group, a bag of old boots and Meryl Streep's daughter's husband dying - WHO KNOWS! and frankly WHO CARES!

For being an HBO drama it’s actually very basic, but it’s very enjoyable.

Not Mrs Russell walking out with the chickens in that frankly hideous dress :D

i do hope Meryl’s daughter elopes and quickly gets disowned by her aunt for her endless insolence.

I clearly pay less than minimal attention to this show, as I had absolutely NO IDEA who the woman in the bonnet was who herself had NO IDEA who the man who introduced himself to her was in this episode (I also didn't know who the man was either).

Do I even care? NOT REALLY!

I've also gone through this entire season just ASSUMING this character was Meryl Steep's daughter, due to their facial similarities...

Only to finally bother to google it...and discover Meryl's offspring is actually Sabrina the non-teenage non-witch :D

I love that Mrs Russel leaving via the servant’s quarters is a major PLOT PLOT/CLIFFHANGER! CAMP!

Also my storyline (should it ever deign to have one) theory is that Rakes wishes to marry Marian as her father DID have assets which he hid as the executor of his estate. Why else would he be interested in the LITTLE DULLARD?!?

It was Mrs. FISH and the man was the other gay.

I’m not really sure about Mrs. Fish and what she’s for apart from lots of young people stay with her.

The storyline with the bald Russell servant perving on (who I think is) Mrs. Astor’s daughter was a bit weird. Where did that come from?

I did like the semi confirmation that McAllister is a raging homosexual and Auroa wouldn’t be worried if she was alone with him.

Either way it’s obvious that Raikes is evil and I wish Marion would listen to aunt Agnes.

Omg I think I know everyone’s names now! I hope it doesn’t end soon!

That wasn’t Mrs Astor’s daughter. I don’t think we’ve seen her before.

The bald servant is my least favourite of all servants, because he’s clearly the Bates of this show. :gross:
