The War in Ukraine

He absolutely is seething. Missiles are raining down on Kyiv this morning for the first time since the early days of the war.

Yeah. It's bad. He's firing on every regional capital basically, also in the annexed regions.

Lukashenko has announced Belarus and Russia will be deploying a joint military task force. He’s dragging them down into Russia’s mess.

I hope it ends him. His position is far more precarious than Putin’s.

This new general Putin has put in charge of everything is LITERALLY Dr. Evil.

Surely bringing Belarus so directly into the war is such a last grasp. A dangerous move for a lot of people on all sides.

If they have a problem with the Russian troops lacking motivation and not understanding why they're there, I can only imagine how enthusiastic the Belarusians will be if they do get brought in.

That's Valentina Petrenko. Google her if you fancy going down a rabbit hole. :D

The Russians appear to have changed tack to just fully bombarding Ukraine with everything (bar nuclear) that they've got in their arsenal over the past week or so. Virtually no pretence at restricting to military and infrastructure, just fully grinding them down. As such there's been a big uptick in civilian casualties. Women, children, the elderly. Truly monstrous stuff. It's actually not dissimilar to how they ultimately won in Chechnya in the 90s, where they also suffered significant early setbacks against fiercer than expected resistance.

The silver lining is that the Ukrainians still have the tactical advantage and support from the West, who are providing anti-missile support. But it's really grim. :(

This is turning real ugly :(

“On the very first day, they put the draftees on the frontline. The command left the battlefield and fled”
