Wow, you really got me on that one - I was just opening up my texts to spam excitement to my friends until I saw the date.

Last time I checked he couldn't sing live, so if that's still the case I'm not WILD about him as a choice, but I love that it's someone with a profile. And he's been responsible for some of my favourite pop songs of the last decade (none of his recent stuff, mind)

And I love that they Beyoncéd the announcement on us, in the middle of a Strictly final no less.

I feel confident that he'll bring a worthy song. Hopefully the rehearsals will iron out any excessively warbly moments.

He's a big name but at the same time I think it could be a smart move for him. After the last album chart wise his star was on the wane and the publicity will result in one big hit if nothing else.

Wasn’t the rumour it was a song that didn’t make the cut for the new Dua Lipa album? Hopefully that part isn’t true.

This feels like quite a coup and surely (surely!) they won’t allow what happened with Mae to happen with Olly on the night

R OLLY is a fucking AMAZING name and it feels like a statement of intent from the BBC that we're going to continue to take it seriously. It helps that he's as homosexual as it's possible to be without qualifying for a blue parking badge, so he'll go in with an idea of what's popular at Eurovision now, as opposed to what was popular in 1985.

UK odds to win down to 7-1

It was in the 20s before

I'm happy with the early announcement and fine with the UK prioritizing name recognition over vocal prowess.

With 5 months to prepare and the ability to add 5 backing singers, there's surely no way this can go wrong.

I'm not convinced he'll do brilliantly. He's not a great live performer and the solo career has never quite taken off despite a few attempts.
