Does 0 mean that no one voted for the UK in the televote??
It looks like 14th was the highest we came in any televote - in both Ireland and Ukraine :(

Whilst I'm pleased to avoid the bottom 5 overall, I feel like that televote zero outweighs it somewhat...

14th being the highest is a disaster.

Whilst there’s definitely an argument about putting staging over vocals, I honestly think we have reason to feel a little salty this year when everything else got a televote score.

Me too. But y'know, it was what it was.

It's disheartened, it was a massive misfire and I worry about next year, but yknow what guys...we won't here a peep from the BBC now for the next 8 months :basil: . So I think it's best not to torture ourselves, strike a line under it and see what fresh hell we get served with next year.

Och well. Still a very belated 2nd good song from Olly after King all those years ago. Well done to the offspring of Lee Mead from Switzerland dressed up as Scardey Cat from Drag Race UK winning. My biggest disappointment was not one "this is my comeback" from Malin even if it's not her line.

No country had the UK in their top 10, but it’s conceivable that the UK were still 11th in all countries :)

I know obviously this wasn't the case, but it goes back to the point of why would you pick up the phone to vote for this over 24 other songs? It feels like we've had that problem too many times.

The 0 doesn't mean we were the least popular at all - just that it wasn't enough to break into anyone's top 10! And that shouldn't be surprising to anyone

I said this in the other thread- two years in a row we’ve sent (ok, perhaps arguably) the worst singer in the contest. That’s not going to translate into votes.

The gay staging was a brave move I stand by, but when so many of my friends said things like “I don’t understand why he’s in a dirty bathroom” etc, it clearly just didn’t translate.

I think it’s an absolute shame he got zero- I don’t think it was deserving of that at all- but lessons that weren’t learnt last year must be for next. I just hope these bad results aren’t going to see the BBC revert to their old ways.

I genuinely didn't think he was a great choice from the start because he's such an unreliable live singer. We need a PRO.

It's not just the vocals (the main reason) and the dirty bathroom, but I've also just realised Olly did that rather odd tongue out, rolled eyes facial expression Mae Muller did that I didn't understand then and don't now. Eurovision wants a WINK or a Bambie, nothing in between

There were many good things about this entry and positives, again, to take away. But when we spend the entire week in a state of anxiety wondering if he will be able to sing it, that’s the surest sign of where the BBC is still going wrong. Any doubts on that front and you shouldn’t even get through the door.

Even if we'd received 30 televote points (which is a huge ask) it would only have bumped him up a couple of places at best so it's not a huge loss.

It's just a shame we didn't get something as that 0 has given the impression he's in the James Newman etc ranks, instead of being seen (by UK standards) as not a total disaster

Yep. Even 10 would have been fine because there was a lot of very low televote scores.

I thought the staging was brilliant, but indeed it's not a particularly memorable song and the vocal performance was one of the weakest last night. Still that 0 was really harsh :manson:

The zero was a real kick between the legs. But I said before, "video" performances are just that. Very cool, but utterly disengaging.

But I'm glad they did what they did.

The song is totally serviceable and the staging was fun (for tv - though I can imagine it was really just odd in the arena?) but man those vocals were damning. Someone said we sent the worst vocals for the second year in a row, but realistically we have done this a lot with Sam and Lucie being pretty notable exceptions.

I feel like we send the worst singer so so often and it never seems to worry the BBC to send someone who literally can’t hold a tune. 🤷🏻‍♂️

When it comes down to it, Olly’s vocals were APPALLING. Utterly embarrassing for us to do this yet again. I can kind of get it with Mae as we tried something different but for us to do it two years in a row - we need to ditch the team and get in fresh blood.

Totally agreed - it was the most obvious take away from last year and to let it happen again is sheer incompetence on the part of the delegation.

IT'S NOT LIKE WE HAVE A SHORTAGE OF CHARISMATIC TALENTED PERFORMERS.

Sam really is looking like the exception now, but he was so right for us.

Did no one check beforehand?

I mean I KNEW he was a rubbish live singer already. How can they miss that fact, when it's been broadcast?
